Husband to Sammy & dada to Brooklyn. Texan Traveller & Hospitality Pro: SATX -> RGV -> Jourdanton -> Kingsville-> Brownsville -> NBTX Student at UoPeople. Liberal activist, indie rapper/scratcher, and reader.
Still fighting the good fight against interview ghosting.
The combination of work/school/apply for jobs/network for leads/parent/be a functioning human being is getting a bit stressful.
I love UoPeople, but I literally have due dates on Christmas, and I work on Christmas as well.
Itβll be worth it one day. Iβll make Brooklyn proud of me.
Okay so letβs change it up to 20 albums in 20 days, no explanation.

Day one.
Unfortunately, this behavior is so commonplace in the hospitality industry. Iβve worked with some truly terrible people. Iβve stayed longer than I should have because the employees deserved better.
This same guy is now the Regional Director of Operations for a hotel management company based in Austin.
Itβs time to expect more from the business leaders in our communities.
Itβs time to demand more accountability.
The executive chef and I came to this GM and told him about the verbal abuse and sexual harassment the staff was experiencing from the F&B Director, and he blew us off.
Our hotel was on South Padre Island in the Gulf, and the same GM instructed the F&B team to advertise gulf-caught shrimp but serve frozen shrimp from Thailand.
I was thinking of a hotel GM I had early in my career. He once instructed our entire full-service hotel team to review our own property on Google because technically we are experiencing the hotel as employees.

Oh no, I just realized it was only a 20 day challenge, so that was it! Maybe Iβll keep going, or maybe Iβll switch it up and do 20 days, 20 albums. π€
If itβs petty, then Iβm petty, but I truly detest this current job climate and think itβs time we all started providing feedback directly to key stakeholders.
Day twenty.

Day nineteen (get it?)

Employees Only Barβs social media post announcing they are open on holidays.
My response to them that itβs not a flex to brag about keeping employees from family on holidays.
Just saying.
Day eighteen.

Today I got a bunch of reading done, along with a discussion assignment and a practice quiz for one of my courses.
Long dayβ¦
Can I also say, I wish it were easier to follow back people in bulk here.

A month later and Iβm still using both Bluesky and Threads about the same amount of time, which is a little more reduced because Iβm busier during the day.
I think the reason Iβm still on Threads is that it integrates better with Insta and FB, where my IRL friends are.
Meta still sucks though.
Schoolβs going well this week. Unfortunately, the way thatβs working best for me while working is to devote the entire weekend to school, but thatβs how it goes, I guess.
Brooklyn is walking around a lot more now. Itβs really exciting!
I need to find a way to freelance in my spare time. Reflecting on that time in my life, I really did have fun.
Day seventeen.

Backbeat Magazine
Today is the 14th anniversary of the first time I was ever published as a freelance writer. :)
Hereβs the last part:
I interviewed a few months ago for a Sales role and the GM loved me but the Regional Sales Director never followed up. He just added me on LinkedIn. I sent him this:

Work is going well, though I donβt love sales, Iβm pretty good at it.
The salary is significantly lower than we can really afford long-term though so the hunt continues.
School is going well. Iβm getting used to focusing on it after work, which has been a bit of an adjustment.
Day fifteen.
