not just any bird, that's a scary af magpie
(ftr, magpies in 'Straya are not the same species as those found in the northern hemisphere)
for all the fear non-aussies have about our deadly creepy crawlies, in the past 40 years more people have died here as a result of magpie attacks than from spiders

fwiw, as an Australian: I reckon most Aussies would recognise "Ottawa" as a Canadian city, but not necessarily know that it's (likewise) the capital
kinda cool though that both cities' names are of, or derived from, the local indigenous languages

Torpedoed by the US. It's a war crime as it's outside combat area. But then it was a war crime when they killed people on boats in the Caribbean.

Long-COVID Sufferer Awarded Nearly $1M After Employer Refused to Let Her Work From Home | Law.com A jury in Nassau County awarded $954,000 to a longtime employee of Stony Brook University Hospital Blood Bank.

A woman with Long Covid won almost one million dollars in a lawsuit against her employer who refused to allow her work from home accommodations.

May this set a precedent.

Remote work should be accessible to all who need it.

It’s a game changer for people with disabilities.

kind of crazy that if you have enough money and don't like what you see in the media, you can just buy up every film studio, news station, and social media app and change it

Australian countryside single-carriage roadway with a large road sign saying "DRIVE ON LEFT in Australia" along with a pictogram showing the traffic direction for each side of the roadway

here in Australia there's often huge road signs around tourism hotspots reminding visitors from overseas that we (just like the UK) actually drive on the *left* side of the road because even when driving a right hand drive vehicle, people do still sometimes forget!

This thread is sort of the reverse of the Python skit about “what have the Romans ever done for us?”
No equivalent of, “well, obviously the roads!”

not an expert but iirc, besides the US being a more litigious society: bc doing both ("parallel proceedings") can be strategically advantageous e.g. civil discovery rules are much broader than criminal discovery rules, also civil cases can reach trial faster than criminal cases (1–1.5 yrs v 2–3 yrs)

yeah it's totally not
like even watching all this from afar (Australia), a Commander in Chief who so frequently denigrates "his" troops just reinforces how appallingly entrenched Trump's disdain actually is for military personnel (and indeed, for everyone in the US who's not part of the one percent)
