Truly honored to be among those selected for a Sloan Research Fellowship! It's humbling to be included in such an amazing group of early-career scientists. Thanks to @sloanfoundation.bsky.social
for your support of young investigators, UF Chem, & @prenticelabuf.bsky.social for all your hard work!
The NSF is the US engine of basic science discovery and technology innovation. This decision is a gift to our overseas competitors.
The National Science Foundation's funding freeze, and wider confusion about the status and future of science funding, is already hampering research.
Scientists are on edge following the Jan. 22 cancellation of multiple meetings with the NIH. Thereβs no tally of how many meetings were cancelled, but some included NIH study sections and advisory councils, which review grant and fellowship applications. cen.acs.org/policy/resea...
In the present discussions about NIH and the need for reform, two recurring points I am seeing are:
(1) NIH doesn't fund truly high impact research
(2) NIH needs to experiment with alternative approaches to peer review, particularly for high risk-high impact research

Another great paper out by Woo-Young Kang! A great investigation of the structural differences of protein charge state conformers utilizing gas-phase ion/ion cross-linking!
