@rachelgilmore.bsky.social does amazing work investigating the far-right in Canada. It's terrifying the lengths they go to stalk.
The fact that our MSM and press orgs have nothing to say about the safety of investigative journalism in Canada is incredibly eye-opening.
The silence is complacency.
These are very reasonable questions.
Rolling Stone is publishing pro-war advertorials by an Israeli government agent now:
Oh man, we were so close to leaving on time! Instead, we are stuck to the ground because we have no pilot.
I have never, once, in my life, heard from any press freedom orgs, despite all the attacks and threats on me over the course of my career. So I'm never surprised by this. But I remain endlessly disappointed.
Seeing that no press freedom orgs have rushed to defend and help @rachelgilmore.bsky.social makes me ask, for the millionth time, what do CJFE, PEN, etc even do? Why exist at all when you do fuck all to fight censorship and intimidation?
I will also say that itβs a bit wild to me that no press freedom organization or professional journalistic association has tried to contact me or even put out a statement here.
I mean Jesus Christ. A little solidarity from institutions would be nice here!
Shortest story is that the BC folks wanted more autonomy than was legally possible in a single charity structure. Long version is ten years of bad blood.
(If two Conservative insiders were attacking the CCPA like this, the crying would be bloody murder. But here, it's apparently OK?
living in a walkable city where you can get anywhere you need by walking, by bus, or train is goated in an economic collapsed based entirely on gas prices
I do not think the police have ever raided the Quakers and been on the correct side of history
As always, Sandy and Nora have a much more sophisticated response to Carneyβs wishy-washiness than mine, which is consistently, βWhat the actual fuck?β
"I donβt hesistate to share whatβs on my mind when asked (or looked at) and I dont mind the questions. I imagine that others do, so I get that people struggle to talk about this in a way that isnβt weird." @nolore.bsky.social

Weird! I will ask Acast what's up.
The article shows that this path actually leads to greater integration into the US. But ok.
Try reading the piece?
'βIf youβre ballooning a military budget, thatβs a choice to steal those funds from health care, housing, public services β from the things that actually guarantee the security and health of people from across this country,β says Small.'

double tapped a girls school in a regime where they oppress women. the other time i saw iran hit they bombed the trans wing of prison. most accurate bombs directed by satelites and lazer ring IMUs hvae very little area of error. they aimed at the school spot twice with intent.
In my latest for @truthout.org I ask the question that nearly no journalists in Canada are asking: why on earth would we pour tremendous resources into building up our military given crumbling social conditions?

This is very bad.
Weird! It's here when I look -- podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/s...
I uploaded it this morning!

The plan is to release them all next week!
Here is my latest -- probably only of a few (fewer probably than 5!) news pieces that is critical of the federal government's military spending bonanza.

My grandparents loved Dief so much that they took a roadtrip there, just to add to your pile of contradictions! I once fled a fire and ended up in PA at 5 am at a Denny's.
PA might be closest to Timmins by that measure, but I never really got a Timmins vibe in PA. I don't think a city in Eastern Canada comes close to that though. Maybe Sept-Isle?
The cottage cheese industry had totally captured my Facebook shorts.
Yes, I was between Guelph and Peterborough. I think that the river influence is stronger in Peterborough (rather than having the grand Grand alone). And I also thought that the downtown was more Peterboroughesque.
