Read the letters referenced by Rep. James Walkinshaw here:
My parents didn’t have power for three months and my mom drank water out of a jug that she filled from a stream and my dad ate breadfruit that fell off his trees and they’re white and have money
Bad Bunny makes me proud to be an American. This is the world i want to live in.
We've put a HALF MILLION whistles out onto the streets. Absolutely astounding.
*You mean that if I talk shit, I might get hit? No FAIR!*
– Ted Cruz here, essentially
not sure, they marched at Mueller
Kids holding signs saying ICE OUT at a protest
Our high school did the same! La Crescenta ,CA
i cried in the dentist’s office too for same reason 🫂
the weird caps in this post are due to me being old - no reader glasses and clumsy thumbs
anyhoot the kids are alright
almost late to my dentist today FOR THE VERY BEST REASON. because a bunch of middle schoolers IN austin, tx staged an ICE OUT protest
Nice to see that maybe a few Republicans can feel their Christian teaching weighing upon them.
Landscape-oriented photo of a gray junco who is actually very brown, one of the browner juncos I've seen -- the borb-shaped bird stands astride the snow, tiny beak pointed forward, dark black button eyes staring as its tail -- peppered with snow -- juts out straight behind it. Its breast is white, but lined with a soft sandy brown. The bird isn't in FULL borb mode yet; hasn't gone ENTIRELY ROUND. Photo by me, Chuck Wendig
Landscape-oriented photo of a red fox stooping low in the snow, warily -- upper left of the frame, doesn't fill the frame -- what does fill the frame are weird bokeh reflections like smeary orange orbs. They're from Christmas lights captured in the window glass -- I tried not to get too close to the window so as not to spook our little vulpine buddy. Photo by me, Chuck Wendig
Landscape-oriented photo of a... red-shouldered hawk, I think? Brownish reddish bird, yellow beak, pale eye ring, white speckled breast. The hawk sits on a branch going across the middle of the pic (background is brown and scrubby on left, green and piney on the right). The bird has an indignant pose -- probably because he or she is cold but it looks like the bird is sort of a haughty prick. Judging you in your taste in music and cinema. Has a very sniffy Letterboxed account, I bet. Photo by me, Chuck Wendig
Landscape oriented. Amid snowy world, a white-throated sparrow sits on an angled branch, the snow puffed up and tufted around it. The bird sits forward -- eyemask line, little pointy beak, yellow between the eyes, and of course the trademark white throat -- as if gazing to the future, thinking of better days, which is something we can all understand. Though in reality, the bird is likely leaning forward, looking for its shot to get at the tasty snacks on the ground, and we can understand too the need for tasty snacks, I am sure. Photo by me, Chuck Wendig
I need a break from the relentless (bad!) news, so I'm poking through some recent photos, and I figured hey, maybe you want a momentary break as well. So here are four of those photos. All by me.
This is right. The White House keeps looking for the “Kneel Before Zod” button — and seems completely shut off to evidence that there isn’t one.
I never post here - usually on Threads (I know they’re the evil empire) anyway here is me warming up before class. it’s COLD (42*F) in Central TX 😂❄️❄️❄️
Mondays really do suck--even for retired people!! Here's what might be happening in our bodies: 🧪 www.scientificamerican.com/article/mond...
I know several people who have covered right-wing folks and white nationalists for years. I cannot emphasize enough how dangerous and hard the work is, how much of a toll it can take on their mental health, and how newsrooms undervalue it even when that expertise is clearly relevant and needed.
Founded 180 years ago today, @sciam.bsky.social is the oldest continually published mag in the US. A fun history dive here to celebrate: 🧪 www.scientificamerican.com/report/celeb...

An M.I.T. study found that 95% of companies that had invested in A.I. tools were seeing zero return. It jibes with the emerging idea that generative A.I., “in its current incarnation, simply isn’t all it’s been cracked up to be,” johncassidysays.bsky.social writes.
Many things are bad. Have you had ice cream today?
Some of y’all noticed I’ve been uncharacteristically offline. This is why, and I remain on leave for a few weeks to handle a PTSD relapse. CJR was dogged in its pursuit of my story. Because of what I do and who I am, I felt that I had to answer their questions honestly.

Just a reminder as we approach the 2025 #txlege session: My email is in my bio, and I always welcome tips. www.texasmonthly.com/news-politic...
Something not noted in the CJR piece is that Olivia often reported on the very worst cases of sexual assault for **several years** at the Daily Beast, including brutal details of mass rapes, cases inside schools and prisons, as well as many lawsuits. I am beyond furious.
Nasty migrain yesterday BUT! Drew this and it will definitely be going on canvas soon. REPS ARE GOOD - whether its drawing the same flower 100s of times or teeping/kicking 100s of times or writing in a journal - IT ALL MATTERS! Have a wonderful Sunday! Love y’all!
Grainy, black and white photo showing two long-haired cats. When is inside of a basket that’s turned on its side. The other is sitting on top of the basket. Text at the bottom reads “the alarm”. Very small text in the lower left corner reads copyright 1902 Albee Bertrand.
The Alarm. Postcard from my collection. Copyright 1902, unsent.
Everything is awful, but Sam Alito is really mad, so there's that.
Don't mess with librarians.
Today, at Law Dork.
And, if you're at the Library of Congress — including the Office of Copyright, Copyright Royalty Board, CRS, Law Library, or elsewhere — and get notice of changes or see something weird happening, reach out via Signal (crg.32) from a non-work phone.
You know he's so pissed that his big trade deal news is being upstaged by a new pope.
