the good news is i had an epiphany about how to fix what was bothering me in the fit of my Corbeau jacket. the bad news is it will require me to start testing sleeves again. ๐

the only issue now is the Jacquard Pearl Ex pigment I bought for the glasses chain to match the original fabric no longer matches lol ๐ the twill is originally pink shot with blue, but the blue fibers are more purple now.
I don't hate it, but I'm gonna snag some of their Magenta pigment to try.
But a lil while ago, it started bothering me. I did some tests with a few swatches using red, pink, and purple rit dyemore, and ended up like the results with just pink.
(second pic little pink swatch is the original fabric, on top of the dyed stuff)
I like how this looks better w/ the orange too!
An update from a couple weeks ago actually --
When I first bought fabric for Corbeau months ago, he wasn't planned for a contest, so I was willing to compromise on some things, like the fact that the pink iridescent fabric I wanted wasn't quite the right shade. --

I've not been feeling super hot for the last couple days so I haven't been able to find the brainpower to work on sewing, but today I painted the fosshape helmet ๐ค
(i also did some paint + color shift pigment tests for the goop chain but i didn't take photos since none of it was what i wanted lol)

I was going through a "new pokemon games are dumb" teenager phase when gen 5 happened, so I didn't play it when it released. I picked up White at some point when I worked at GameStop in college but never got further than the first couple gyms.
Finally giving it another go :3
But I say I *officially* started today because I actually began the process of making the wig itself.
I finally tried out Fosshape, and WOW it's a miracle material??? Did a plastic wrap+tape pattern on the wig head, cut out pieces with lots of extra room, sewed it up, and shrunk it down with steam!
I also Officially Started On The Wig today. I kind of started about a month ago when I had a custom wig head making party with some friends using @silencedrowns.com 's amazing tutorial: www.tumblr.com/silencedrown...
Dan put down a couple coats of filler prime yesterday, and I did a thorough sanding with 120 grit today. Did another light round of filler primer and plan to do another round of higher grit sanding tomorrow.
a lil goopy glasses chain update:
The mold box pieces were connected with 2-part epoxy. Dan has been doing most of the work on applying layers of Bondo and doing the heavier passes with sandpaper.
I did learn afterwards that you're supposed to dilute Bondo with acetone... c'est la vie i guess lmao

Cuffs were thankfully a lot easier since the pattern piece is just a rectangle, bless
aaand then i learned that Inkscape can't warp objects! So I exported the collar pattern and rings as separate PNGs and put them into Photopea, and warped the rings so they move decently well around the collar pattern.
Removed the red outline from the final image and we have a collar ready to print!
Since I've landed on a ring size, I can finally prep the special prints for his collar and cuffs!
I measured my collar pattern piece and imported a photo of it into Inkscape, then used that to make a clean outline. Duplicated my original ring vector to get roughly the same size worth of repeats
After wasting a lot of money messing up the math on my first attempt at getting Philippe's fabric printed, I decided to print some sample sizes ๐
Left side is 1" rings, right side is 1.25". i also printed a 1.5" version but it was def too big.
Went with 1" since it looks better proportionally!
Combee (Bottom) No, no, - think the queen' IS gonna like mine the best!

i did straight up forget to sew the darts lmao, and i didn't press the seams, so I'll do that in the morning.
i made the block like a regular suit, but like Corbeau, I'll be taking away a lot of width from the front so the coat naturally sits open. i folded it under here to see how much to cut out.
suit block ended up close to perf on the first go!
One thing I've learned between making the shirt and the suit jacket is that something in the set of Dan's shoulders requires me to cut a lot of fabric out of the armscye to get it to lay correctly. (left side fixed, right side not in the front pic)

Holy shit
the good news is that i was able to duct tape the pieces together to get a quick proportions test, and it's looking good! The size of the tie is right where I want it; I just need to bring down the neckline of the vest a bit.
You can see the stairstep phenomenon on my original test print. This struck me as likely being trickt to sand, but it's better than what happened with the supports ๐ฎโ๐จ
I hate wasting this filament, but at least nixing supports will save a lot on the next attempt.
I also printed his tie today...and it'll need to be printed again. ๐ซ I oriented all the pieces so the top surface was flat to prevent the stairstep look, but the short supports made the underside look horrendous and broke the thin connection spots. Also the ironing did some weird stuff on top??
Realized that the suit jacket was all I had left to pattern after doing the vest yesterday, so we're starting it today!
The Aldrich book has methods for a "classic" or "easy fitting" suit jacket. The easy fitting one has larger shoulders, so I did that to accentuate Philippe's broad silhouette~
after getting frustrated with this stuff last week, I shifted focus to Philippe for a bit. I'm still sorta doing that now, but I did whip up a little embroidery file today for some fun fabric-covered buttons!
It'll be a tiny, largely unnoticeable detail, but it will make me happy :)
