With Ireland being situated on the edge of the Atlantic, it gets a lot of lost migrating birds every year.
Chances are that being a sea duck it got caught in an autumn storm, possibly in Iceland, the closest breeding area to Ireland, and got blown here.

Apparently of the best spots is around Trebujena, south of Seville.
