My out there prediction has always been that he'll go true independent and caucus with neither party, sacrificing committee assignments for being the ultimate tiebreaker in a 50 D-49 R-1 Fetterman Senate.

(Also regrettably remembered for his cameo alongside Michael Avenatti as the negative examples in the infamous Beto O'Rourke sex tweet)
Was genuinely baffled to see this on the election returns on Tuesday.
Remember this guy? West Virginia State Senator, ran for President for a hot second in 2020? He's back as a longshot congressional candidate in North Carolina now?
All the best to him, I suppose, but what a weird trajectory.
One of the things that first got me into The Best Show was Scharpling going hard for Mr. Brooks, culminating in an incredible one man audio dub performance of the entire movie. I think I donated to WFMU for the first time just for that.
it's far too lucid, frankly. Today's Trump doesn't do complete thoughts or sentences.
Yeah, this is almost certainly an impersonator smart enough to trade on the John Barron lore, but it is still very funny and a reminder that C-SPAN call ins are unmatched in their chaos.
Was just thinking the other day how good he'd look up there contrasted with JD Vance on a debate stage. Shame it'll never come to pass.
I'll admit that Colbert's Late Show era comedy hasn't always been my thing, but damned if he isn't a tremendously gifted interviewer who gets deep with his guests on big issues when it's called for.
Hoping we get much more of it from him in whatever his next act might be.
HOLY SHIT NEW @tedleo.bsky.social TUNES!

Just want to say that we're all doing an outstanding job of mourning Catherine O'Hara like the absolute legend that she was ๐
the name Jazz Monroe kills me every time.
You're so cordial towards so many members of Congress on both sides of the aisle (complimentary) that if this is what you have to say about a guy, then it speaks volumes ๐
Yes, I had the same thing happening to me. Glad to know it's a bigger issue.
C'MON, MAN. THEY'RE PREDICTING UP TO AN INCH OF ICE. CATASTROPHIC FOR ROADS AND INFRASTRUCTURE. NOT TIME FOR "COZY SIPS"!
Truly one of the greatest shows ever. Wish the cowards at Disney+ would release it for streaming.
Love to get this ad from the Dunkin app on my phone as we prepare for a potentially crippling region wide ice storm this weekend.
READ THE ROOM, DUNKIN.
CPAP orientation, day after Christmas.
Feels like I unlocked the middle aged version of Brick by Ben Folds Five.
Hell yeah! Mixes well with just about anything imo.
Well, it's another banner day to be a Michigan State alum!
If it weren't on CNN, I'd say this is too on the nose to be real, and yet there it is.
yeah, I recognize that look of pure Motor City joy! May it cure all that might ail you.
Truly the flunkiest flunky to ever flunk. Just a completely pliant empty shell of a man.
Another great thing about @joshgondelman.bsky.social is how he responds to internet praise with his personal thanks. Kill Tony could never!
(Just remembered I screenshot the passage at the time. Just weirdly, deeply sad!)

The Lorne bio more or less confirms this. At the time he was tapped to succeed Conan at Late Night, he was drinking heavily in the wake of a movie career that failed to launch. They dried him out (ish), put him on a college tour to figure out his act, and showtime!
Said it before and I'll say it again - if you look at every awful Rogansphere inspired "comedy" trend of recent years and think "I kind of want the exact opposite of that", Josh is pretty much your guy.
Comedy that's smart, warm, empathetic, and laugh out loud funny because of it.
Our 3 year old has the flu the week before Christmas.
Today's highlight, after the kids got to bed:
Me: "I feel like I could use a shower tonight"
My wife: "Well, you were the one who got puked on this morning..."
Reading the Lorne bio, part of the charm of the running narrative of a week in the life of the show was how genuinely handcrafted everything is by actual artists. It's real "let's put on a show" energy that makes you want to root for an admittedly imperfect comedic institution.
My phrase last week was "well, depression didn't win today, but it definitely got a participation trophy".
An absolute steal for one of my absolute favorites of 2025.
Enough time to buy it, read it, love it, and buy a hard copy as a Christmas gift for someone else who will love it!
Deeply torn on Allam - she's always had her eyes on a bigger stage than the local office in Durham she holds, and hasn't always navigated the complex local politics of the city/county with grace as a result. At the same time, I'd like her more in Congress than in Durham?
