In the current issue of Archaeology Ireland (Winter 2025):
Roisin OβDroma and Niamh Millward explore early modern Dublin through cesspit evidence from Capel Streetβusing plant and insect remains to reconstruct diet and daily life.
An old sign next to a road in a wintery birch forest. It's damaged but clearly prohibits bathing, littering etc. Last line says "do not throw coins into the loch". The modern Scottish Water sign has blown off and lies nearby.
Delightful old sign revealed on the road to Loch Katrine, a main reservoir for Glasgow since 1859. Imagine a world where people were throwing away so much money there was a risk of mass copper poisoning.

Out of date beer trap for slugs and snails. May they die happy and soon
Almost the last of my forgotten Covid lockdown beer put to battle against the slugs, although they are not getting all of it. The joys of #organic gardening

A small blue- painted shop with taller Georgian buildings either side.
The site of #MaryAnningβs house and shop 1826-47, Broad Street, Lyme Regis. It was a small, 2 storey thatched house, demolished in the 1930s. Now, appropriately, a cancer charity shop. The buildings either side would have been familiar to Mary.

I don't know if there is a more appropriate goodbye to Loretta Swit, than her last scene in MASH in the series finale.
Loretta won two Emmy's for her role as Major Houlihan.
