Dark Magician Girl! ๐ #BRart
You can let yourself use a pencil every now and then, as a treat
I mentioned it in response to Pikat, but timed gestures (30/60s) are a good way to build the muscle memory necessary to capture forms in as few lines as possible. Drawing on paper in pen also helps since there's no room for mistakes. The rest comes down to just not letting yourself draw flat lines
One thing I might suggest is maybe doing these studies on paper with a pen. It's brutal and unforgiving in a way that you can't really get with digital, and will kinda just force you to draw the thing or perish
That just comes down to practice! Part of it is actually building muscle memory (which timed gesture drawings help with) and the other part is really just forcing yourself to think about if your lines are doing the job while drawing, and if not, trying again. Over time it'll become second nature
Because notably, you can draw the 3D shape of something without constructing at all, and you can draw a flat outline of a shape that feels like it has 3D qualities to it with no details, both of those are a result of an understanding of form
I think the answer is actually a step back from those two things. Construction=shape accuracy, proportions=size accuracy, but the unifying fundamental is form. Learning to see things as 3D forms and developing the muscle memory to express those as lines makes it less necessary to split the process
