First post. Hello everyone! Excited to be here!
I am a:
* Technology enthusiast with over 20 years in IT.
* Writer (blog posts, how to guides, working on a couple of books)
* Volunteer
* Former long-time Caregiver
* Chronic illness sufferer
* Canadian, Albertan, Maritimer at heart
On indefinite Social Media hiatus as of 08/30/25.
I can be reached via my personal Substack blog (see bio).
Take care of yourselves.
A "Navigator" responded to my detailed email requesting a phone call. Yeah, okay. It'll be quick, though. My email was clear. Send an Assessor (Nurse) who adheres to the laws, not one who claims to have powers they don't.
I'm just going to say it...decent interest in my archived How To Guides at KevinTheTechGuy.ca, but almost nothing in terms of paid subscribers out of that.
If you get value out of my work, please support me.
Another CGI fest I will happily ignore.
Americans better be having regrets. Choices were made that allowed this to become reality. We were warned for years. To claim ignorance rings hollow.
Both sides are to blame for different reasons, and I'm not seeing evidence either side has learned much.
Are you following and financially supporting @kimsiever.bsky.social's work at the Alberta Worker?
Kim covers labour and politics in Alberta with depth and independence. Paid subscriptions make his reporting possible. albertaworker.ca
Yes, absolutely. But I would question what supports are in place to ensure a full recovery and prosperity. If I had control over that, too, then I'd feel even better about it.
In truth, it's not this simple. NIMBYism is real, and resources are severely lacking.

Right, yes, on Patreon. I guess I never thought of it like a newsletter. Maybe daily is too often? I have switched to weekly and a paid monthly for mine. I'm still creating the blog posts and YouTube Shorts, but I don't want people to become numb to them.
My latest free weekly newsletter. Paid monthly newsletter starts next month. If you find value in my work, please support me.
I think you're putting in too much effort for too little return. For example, I appreciate your short videos, but they're not getting traction.
Maybe do a weekly or monthly (paid?) newsletter to remind people of what you're doing?
I'm relieved to hear some have helped you out. I'm frustrated that it took you pouring your heart out like that in desperation for it to happen.
I really wish you would put some of your work behind a paywall, or narrow your focus. I had to, and it's slowly working.
Never Again: Why I Refuse to Carry the Burden of Caregiving
I was writing a book about how to survive family illness and Caregiving, but now I know I should have walked away. Here's why.

This is no more of a practical solution than making Linux look more like Windows. Pointless and doesnβt solve the problems.
I completely agree, but seemingly the best the NDP can do is complain about the UCP.
Straight up tell us what youβll do. Shitting on the other team isnβt doing what you think itβs doing.

I guess Ridley Scott has nothing better to do.
A school bus, but on bikes! I recently joined parents, kids, and volunteers for a community ride to celebrate the launch of @bikebusedmonton.bsky.social. #yegbike
Howβs the vacation and renos going? Iβd like to hear about that sort of thing from people. Day to day stuff, like Social Media used to be.
Vulnerable individuals I work with don't have cars, but have needs: shopping, attending appointments, visiting children, etc. Many use buses, many depend on bicycles, e-scooters, skateboards, and yes, even shopping carts. They want to be safe as much as you and I. #abpoli www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
Want to learn more about the work I do, and hear stories about the vulnerable people I help?

Infuriating they were reassuring customers as recently as March. "If it were to change at some point, there would likely be a tool to help bloggers migrate to another platform. However, as mentioned, there is no plan at this time to shut down Typepad, and the Support team are still here for you."
After 22 years, Typepad is shutting down with one month's notice. Go back up your old blogs, old-school blogger friends. everything.typepad.com/blog/2025/08...
IMHO it's a rather stunning achievement that Social Media companies convinced nearly every biz in the world to permanently put their logo on their branding, vehicle wraps, etc, for free marketing in the attempt to "connect" with customers, which was honestly never the point.
Painstakingly put together detailed notes to use at my bank appt today to get info about financially preparing for MAID.
Didnβt use them. Somehow I just knew what to say and it flowed. Weird how that works.
I can request a third Assessor to be the "tie-breaker", as she put it, and I likely will.
I'll talk about this on mylifeiwithibs.substack.com.
Second MAID assessment done today. She contradicted some of the "basics" of eligibility that the program has confirmed to me multiple times. She denied me based on how she interprets the law and her role as an Assessor, which she claims she can do.
I'll iron out the details with their office.
Yep. Prestige podcasting is dying for the same reason as the rest of the media: Pontificating is cheap and reporting is expensive.
