An original Nashville sit-in member, along with Diane Nash, James Bevel, and John Lewis. Trained in non-violence by James Lawson. At age 21, he signed a will before the Freedom Rides, knowing he could die.
May his soul be at peace, and may we all have such courage in the face of oppression.
Yesterday I told my friend from Oklahoma that Mullins was going to tapped for DHS, so what wish should I make today?
But now I kinda want to see it to experience the bad.
One of the best ethnographies I've ever read and such an inspiration for my research. I've gifted several copies.
This is how white nationalism undermines very basic thinking.
I interned in a state Medicaid/Medicare audit unit. The idea that states do not do this already is absurd and is only justified if you are incensed that non-white people receive equal benefits that they are entitled to under the law.
I feel like I left Virginia better than I found it voting for her.
I have turned off true crime podcasts with less gruesome details and more empathy than this SOTU.
That one guy in seminar
Do not shave your head.
Democracy is when voters choose their leaders. Autocracy is when leaders choose their voters.
Benito is a threat b/c he makes art so alluring and enjoyable you want to understand everything about it and then you end up learning about sugar and slavery and colonialism and the Taínos and Hawaii and then you probably have some thoughts of your own, and that's why art is powerful and dangerous
They sang American Idiot, we have such a low level of political literacy.
I have things that I'm putting off until after Mardi Gras.
I feel like I really live here now.
Those are the hardest working scare quotes in the business.
What is the goddamn bar for calling something racist without qualification if monkey videos don’t make the cut?
Policy brief quote card featuring Jamie Morgan from Tulane University. The maroon background displays the quote: 'Building a future rooted in gender equity means confronting violence directly and creating conditions where everyone can live, parent, and seek care without fear.' A circular headshot photo of Jamie Morgan, a person with dark hair and glasses, appears in the lower left. The Scholars Strategy Network logo is in the lower right corner.
In this policy brief, @depechealamode.bsky.social (Newcomb Institute) explains how anti-abortion violence has escalated since Dobbs and argues for stronger protections for bodily autonomy, including enforcement and community-based safety strategies.

It's easy to see these men as individual bad apples. But I'd argue--the bigger problems are "elite" universities' look-the-other-way approach to dealing with big-name bad actors, and the fact that, societially, we let "elite" universities play such a big role in determining who can get ahead.
“There’s no single answer that will solve all our future problems. There’s no magic bullet. Instead there are thousands of answers—at least. You can be one of them if you choose to be.”

Also very Japanese American internment. So many family homes and farms seized for pennies on the dollar by white neighbors

This witness to Alex Pretti's murder not only refutes the governmen't story, but says she is afraid to go home because federal agents might arrest her. This is what it feels like to live under state terror.

Something you almost certainly won’t see in the national news is how many tiny protests are all over the Twin Cities today.
They’re at stoplights. Parks. Bridges. Just everywhere. And people walking by are joining in. The solidarity is so deep.
It’s beautiful and brave. I love this city.
"They say they're coming to save us from some evil? They're talking about our neighbors who take care of us ... Alex was murdered while he was helping. Mr Rogers said look for the helpers, & right now the helpers have a target on our forehead ... Mr Rogers would be here right now too, so I'm here."
I began my talk with a solidarity statement on the Minnesota general strike and the power of stories to call people to action. Abortion advocates know what it means to put our bodies on the line for collective freedom and Minnesota is showing us what beloved community looks like.
We commemorated Roe v. Wade yesterday with a visit from @jessicavalenti.bsky.social of Abortion Everyday.
Today, I presented on abortion as an act of political resistance & gendered liberation.
"We persist, because the reproductive justice movement is as unstoppable as pregnancy is ungovernable."
Last term I tried an experiment: I walked into my Tech and Design Ethics class, admitted that I had *no idea* what to do about ChatGPT - so I would let them figure it out.
As in: their first project was to decide and write the ChatGPT policy for the class.
Here's what happened:
Voting was one of my last acts living in Virginia and leaving it better than I found it.
