Watching the Opening Ceremonies for the 2026 Paralympic Games. So beautiful and heartfelt.

A portrait of a short eared owl face
All of our wildlife patients this year so far have been owls, but this is our first short-eared.
You can help prevent car strikes like this by obeying rural speed limits and not throwing any litter out of cars. Even organics like apple cores attract rodents to roads, which attracts their hunters. ๐ชถ
Lawyers of Bluesky: you may want to have a look at this.
Bondi's DOJ is proposing a rule that would require state bar associations to suspend disciplinary proceedings against DOJ lawyers who have violated ethics rules for as long as the DOJ wants, under the guide of DOJ investigating its own attys.

Optical illusion of a woman bent over some papers. Her sunglasses are pushed up and she is wearing a hair band so the top of her head looks exactly like a Muppet face
Sorry I know the world is in a terrible fix but I've been laughing at this for ten minutes now
moment of calm: an oregon coastal elk just being an elk, no filler
It was maddeningly hilarious to search for "how to turn off Steve Inskeep," and have the results read to me in his voice.
(And no shade to @steveinskeep.bsky.social, whose work I enjoy on public radio. Just please not his or anyone else's voice taking over my dreamtime OS.)
Dreamt last night that, due to some weird AI infiltration, every bit of text on my computer screen (from websites to my novel drafts) was *instantly* auto-narrated by a clone of @steveinskeep.bsky.social's voice. I couldn't figure out how to turn it off.
This is Hippo. He's visiting Scotland for the first time. Had no idea they made squeaky toys for humans too. 14/10 (TT: kelseydarragh)
I haven't see it! Maybe the library has it. There are a few other references I could have made, too.

A fine essay. Both eloquent and down to earth.
Thanks!
Because waaaaay too much happens on any given day, I find myself repeating, every couple of hours, "Today is Wednesday," just as a reminder.
A contemporary Star Trek show reference, pondering longer life as a vampire, and some Carl Sagan. That's a lot of boxes checked off
Yeah, perhaps a few too many instances of "vampire" in this one, though.
My latest for @skyandtelescope.bsky.social, about short human lifespans and the yearning to see everything.

Experts are concerned that the satellites could ruin dark skies, pollute the atmosphere, and worsen the space debris. The public has a limited time to comment.

Ack.
She's not wrong.
Ugh. Just the idea of Daylight Saving Time makes me tense, and it's coming up this weekend. The practice is disruptive, and I don't care for it.
Need a read for Women in Horror month? GIRL IN THE CREEK is excellent!
Which you already knew. I didn't sleep much. ๐คฃ
Similar conditions here on the other side of town, so I watched a live camera feed for a couple of hours.
An image of a total lunar eclipse with a full moon that looks orange.
Beautiful conditions for this morning's (ongoing) total lunar eclipse. ๐ญ
It's happening, friends!
Lots of clouds in the sky here in Portland, so I'm watching a livestream.
Same here in Portland. Thank goodness for live video streams.
