"Leading vaccinologist Helen Petousis-Harris says there's not enough awareness of the impact of COVID-19 on overall health."

"What many people don't realise is that getting COVID repeatedly is not like building immunity, it's more like accumulating damage," she says.

Heat map using CDC data and PMC estimate of prevalence

Breaking: The CDC reports SARS-CoV-2 levels *quadrupled* in Minnesota in the past week.

Using harmonized wastewater estimates, we project 1 in 12 people in Minnesota are actively infectious. This is equivalent to a 59% chance of exposure in a room of 10 people....

It is about purity and cleanliness with these people, their mentality that health is moral value and that apparently healthy people like them could never harbour pathogens that could harm other people.
They engage in moralism with a tinge of fascism.
They take it personally when asked to mask.

I’m super impressed.

Not only masking, but spreading the message in such a positive way.

Great job team.

Face masks β€˜inadequate’ and should be swapped for respirators, WHO advised Experts are urging guideline changes on what health professionals should wear to protect against flu-like illnesses including Covid

@thewhn.bsky.social urge @who.int to recommend proper FFP2/3 (N95/99) face masks:

'There's no justification for using ('baggy blue') surgical masks ubiquitous in hospitals & clinics globally, given their inadequate protection against airborne pathogens'.

Flu-like illness activity now at highest rate on record, new CDC data shows Flu activity is continuing to climb across the U.S. as hospitalizations rise, updated data from the CDC shows.

The highest rate on record.

It staggers me that no-one in public health seems to be acknowledging that immune dysregulation caused by prior SARS-CoV-2 infection is likely a significant factor in this, and the implications of this concept going forward.

In 2026 there will be more mass media articles and commentators ridiculing people taking precautions to avoid SARS-CoV-2 infection while simultaneously hundreds of pieces of research will be published further demonstrating the long-term harms of infection.

Ignore the ridicule.

I'm old enough to remember when smoking around others was socially acceptable, in restaurants, bars, workplaces etc. Secondhand smoke was everywhere.

We changed norms once we accepted that shared air = shared risk.

Airborne viruses are no different

🚨Flu is surging across the US!

People are getting so sick with flu that they're not even calling in, just completely passing out for entire days and missing work. This is why you mask, and it's why you don't make fun of people who mask.

Really interesting use of data, integrating what is known about COVID transmission into activity tracked during a video-recorded clinical skills competition in Hong Kong, to model the interplay between mitigations and behaviour.

For years, public health bent under pressure to downplay masks. When the same institutions now say β€œmask up,” it’s not a flip-flopβ€”it’s a warning. If they’re willing to recommend masks again, the airborne threat is serious.

I'm not being a dick. C19 is DANGEROUS and we ALL need to work together of we're going to get through this.

Excellent public health messaging from New York City!!

Be the happy peace sign waving emoji instead of the sick and sniffling emoji.

How can you do that?

Wear a mask! Ideally a respirator like an N95.

It’ll help keep you and your community safe.
