As debate rages about the incarceration of former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters, a new voice has entered the conversation:
Joe Exotic, the “Tiger King.”
He requested that Polis trade his federal custody with Peters’ state custody in an email this week.
ICYMI from this morning: a former Hickenlooper cabinet member has launched a somewhat last-minute campaign for the U.S. House in Colorado’s 3rd District. Alex Kelloff believed he was the only Dem in the CD3 race when I talked to him last week, but Romero filed with the state party that day.
News: Democrat Dwayne Romero, former Colorado economic development director, has launched a campaign for the state’s 3rd Congressional District U.S. House seat. He’ll face Alex Kelloff in the primary for the seat currently held by Republican Jeff Hurd.
I spoke with Hope Scheppelman the other day and asked about a potential Trump endorsement. She said Trump’s Hurd endorsement was the result of “bad advice” and that her camp had been in touch with others in Trump’s orbit.
Polis with the most exciting announcement of 2021, only five years too late.
I’m not convinced that Denver wins if they kick the field goal earlier, since it would be 10-10 now and they’d still need a Stidham-led scoring drive in this weather to win.
But man, that decision is gonna haunt Sean Payton.
Being a sports fan is psychologically insane. You root for a team to make deep runs to important games, and then the experience of watching your favorite team play in those important games when they make it that far is…. gut-churning and miserable. Truly a conundrum of the human condition.
The bad news for the Broncos: the offense is clearly more limited without Bo and a lot of little things are adding up. Denver should honestly be up double digits.
The good news: the defense is playing absolutely out of their minds. Patriots offense has zero rhythm.
This is the year. Jarrett Stidham has improved so much under this new offense. He's focused. He's having fun. I wouldn't be surprised if he's a dark horse for the Heisman.

A few days late in sharing, but I had a chat late last week with Colorado Gov. Jared Polis on his legacy, bridging the gap between Denver Dems and rural Colorado, and trying to lead a state while the president openly wishes for him to “rot in Hell.”
Polis is weighing clemency for former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters as Donald Trump is seeing out his “harsh measures” against Colorado.
Mesa DA Dan Rubinstein, who prosecuted Tina, told me he’s met with Polis and believes Polis hasn’t made a decision and will meet with others before making a call.
Statement I just got from U.S. House Rep. Lauren Boebert after today’s attempt to override Trump’s veto of her Finish the Arkansas Valley Conduit Act was unsuccessful:
“I’m obviously disappointed by the outcome of today’s vote. Promises made should be kept. My work here isn’t finished. Stay tuned.”

In August I talked to Denver University law professor Ian Farrell about what Trump could do regarding Tina Peters without Colorado accommodating him. His response:
“She’s already been convicted! What can they do? Are they going to storm the walls of a prison to try to get her out?”
As someone who has covered the Tina Peters mess a whole bunch, I’d just like to point out that, unless Polis and the state directly step in, this pardon isn’t actually a pardon. This is sort of like Michael Scott declaring bankruptcy in “The Office.” Simply saying it doesn’t make it so.

BREAKING: Mesa County DA Dan Rubinstein and Colorado AG Phil Weiser sent a letter to Gov. Jared Polis on Thursday with a clear message:
No matter what Trump says, the state should not adjust former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters’ sentence.
I was provided a copy of the letter late this afternoon.

Hot take: make fun of the content of the lyrics all you want but “CANCELED” is the catchiest and most replayable song from the album.
