between DEPRESSION and DESPONDENCY, and I take heart that my situation is almost never as dire as full-blown clinical depression. I’m managing, though I want to do better than just ‘manage’.

There’s no age limit. I’m 74 and still struggling. It’s been my near constant companion almost my entire adult life. It’s responded to varying degrees to several antidepressants, until they stop working or show side effects that are too much. However, these days I’m investigating the difference
