I gave this talk about six months ago. Since then, vibe coding has advanced quite a bit. On Slide 3, I talked about the process I used and it's already out of date!
However β most of this talk is about media forms, and about how I expect the technology to move forward. All of that still applies
My talk from @hope.net 2025 was just posted this week!
"Media, Vibe Coding, And The Long Tail"

Yay cool! I dropped by tiat yesterday and was able to see yβallβs piece in person before it comes down β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ
Iβll be very curious about that framing comment whenever you get around to it!
I have now posted linkpile as a postscript on the cancel culture post and also as a comment on that post!
This reminds me to add my linkpile about cancel culture somewhere to this post. Maybe a postscript or in comments. I will link back to yours too! Your entire blog should get more attention imho

βThe clubβ let newcomers run into the cancellation buzzsaw while watching to see if they survived

Laurensonβs memoir reflects her characteristically thoughtful ambivalences, so I added a link to it to my post on the subject
In honor of the event, I republished my article to my own Substack account
I included a new note up front because a commenter suggested that I only criticize the left and not the right. lol. TLDR: I donβt think there are a lot of heroes on either side lately. sigh

Some spots just opened up at this event Friday evening. If you're in the Bay Area, come out and meet us - I'll be reading from my piece "Canceled Left and Right," which was originally published in The Ick by @emilybynight.bsky.social :)

Like if I compare to Irina Zarutska - I kind of want to start tracking literal minute by minute timelines of how these stories spread on these platforms. I bet that would be interesting data to look at side by side
The story is so huge at this point that I think Twitter/X is going to let it hit the TLs of relatively neutral people very soon because otherwise itβs too obvious. Itβs very striking to me that I had to *look* for posts about it as late as now, though
fwiw though, there are lots of people taking the blue tribe side and they are not being obviously suppressed - like they can still get likes and reposts. eg:
Itβs mostly just not even in my base T/X timeline. Like people are talking about it, but likeβ¦ itβs almost my entire timeline here, and over there I had to look for it.
This is partly the specific accounts I follow and the fact that I donβt post that much about politics, I guess. But still striking
Today is possibly the biggest divergence I have ever seen between my timeline here and my timeline on Twitter/X
ABUSE OF POWER COMES AS NO SURPRISE
lol yeah itβs not like Iβm a shrinking violet
I recall reading an interview with a fella a few years ago in which he said, βYeah, I met Epstein once. Vibes were off.β
I am acquainted with @lydialaurenson.bsky.social. She is not exaggerating about living a Weird Stuff life, such that her Vibes Were Off account here is terrifying.

I wrote a post-Slutcon update! Also reposted an old interview that I did a while back, with an anthropologist who studies poly families. Plus some links to other stuff I mentioned in my Slutcon session, including a post about intergenerational co-living communities

Yes! Thank you so much for reaching out and for the kind words
Were you there at the same time I was Rima?
Thank you Rima π

If anyone can teach us about the real-world consequences of cancel culture, it's @lydialaurenson.bsky.social
For the season finale of The Ick, her essay brings down the house: www.emilybynight.com/p/how-i-got-...
If youβre an American with aging parents: TIL each state has a Department of Aging. You can call them for your parentsβ state and ask what local resources are available.
This might include advisors for all kinds of problems and even physical (non-medical) help, e.g. for cleaning or space organizing
seen on fbook this morning
anyway, not that anyone seems to care what I think about all this, but for the record, the timing and circumstances of the final breakup are contested, for uh, contextual reasons
Itβs honestly kind of hilarious at this point
Me: holding absolutely gigantic flag that says CONTEXT
Reporters: eh. weβd much rather drink at these parties than go check out that flag
