One of the many things that really, really sucks about all this is that working in animation used to be steady enough that you could save up for a house in LA. And this was still feasible only a few years ago. It was a career, not a string of gigs.

You didn’t pick the wrong profession. This career used to be steady and could eventually buy us a house in LA. I knew it wasn’t going to be easy but I didn’t expect things to implode before our very eyes so quickly (if at all)
Is this all theres left of the industry, just 3 studios in charge, with very little hire or opportunities? While the rest of us are left with mere breadcrumbs to survive?? Freelance jobs are dead in the water, indie isn’t stable, barely anything is getting made….did I pick the wrong profession??
After the difficult years we’ve already been going through, this news really feels like a final nail in the coffin before they unceremoniously shove said coffin into a pit
It’s really fun and normal that we’ve had multiple mergers over the last decade that have decimated industries and people’s careers, all while there are (supposed) laws in place to prevent such rampant monopolization. The antitrust laws must have been taken to the farm.
