ActBlue Isnβt Selling Your Data
The campaign you donated to might be sharing your data.
It's the truth, and well established in the public record: matthodges.com/posts/2024-0...
AB isn't blameless and should do more to stop folks, but they don't do it.
I've worked for multiple campaigns and two PACs - list swapping and buying is frequent but they never come from a payment processor.

It's actually the reverse. Candidates and PACs sell your data and swap it with other candidates/PACs. AB never does. They're just a payment processor linked in the texts.

I think Charles point is that the politicians and PACs are the primary one to blame here (though AB is certainly not blameless) as they are the ones selling and swapping your data and who created the legal system that allowed this in the first place.

By Chris Quinn, Editor, cleveland.com/The Plain Dealer
A college student withdrew from consideration for a reporting role in our newsroom this week because of how we use artificial intelligence.
It reminded me again how college journalism programs are failing to prepare students for the workforce. I mentioned this in a column before, and readers asked me to explain
A conscientious journalism grad withdraw from a job when she learned the Cleveland Plain Dealer uses AI to write its stories.
Now the editor is castigating her and journalism professors for not being βprepared for the workforce.β

If ice wasnβt terrorizing their communities they would not have to wear masks. Their police do not have to wear mask. If ice treated people respectfully and lawfully they would not have to hide their faces.

ABC: Do you still have confidence in Pam Bondi as AG?
MASSIE: I don't think Pam Bondi has confidence in Pam Bondi. She wasn't confident enough to engage in anything but name calling in a hearing. So no, I don't. She was responsible for the document production.

This is completely untrue. That last line is absolutely ridiculous and would be a massive scandal. There's reason to be pissed that they don't do more here, but they aren't selling your data and they have nothing to do with supporting Republicans. Come on now.

Elysia Morales was all-in for the MAGA movement. The 21-year-old cast her first presidential vote for Trump in 2024 and soon built up Republican credentials, leading her Indiana college Turning Point USA chapter as vice president and serving as a national committeewoman for the College Republicans of America for the state.
Elysia Morales left positions leading Republican groups as her support for President Trump faded. Evan Cobb for WSJ
But after seeing videos of deportations posted by Trump administration officials and the killing of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, Morales, a granddaughter of a Mexican immigrant, said her support for Trump is at a newfound low. She said she is also disturbed by Trumpβs foreign entanglements, including with Israel, and has left both her posts at TPUSAβthe youth outreach organization founded by Charlie Kirkβand the College Republicans of America.
βThis is not the party I once signed up for and registered to be in,β said the Saint Maryβs College junior.
From a WSJ article about Trump voters having buyer's regret:
"This is not the party I once signed up for and registered to be in."
From the quote alone, you'd probably picture a middle aged white guy who's voted GOP regularly for decades, right?
Guess again:

I've slept a bit on this other than a few posts, but one of the most brazen things happening in state governments right now is that the Kentucky GOP is trying to impeach a liberal justice (and the first/only Black woman to join the court) because of a vote she took last year they don't like.

Never donate to candidates or PACs, because that's who sells and trades your data - not AB. They just share it with whoever you give to.

Iβve watched a lot of congressional hearings over the last 40 years. This performance by Bondi is the single most unprofessional, non-responsive, reprehensible and obnoxious I have ever seen from any witness who has testified before any committee of either chamber.

I know plenty of people with filters for anything with an AB link and canβt blame them. Just wish the people causing the problem caught their share of the blame too.

They only share your data with the campaign/PAC you choose to give to - it's the campaigns and PACs that are selling/trading your data with each other. AB certainly enables it, but they aren't the root cause.

Also, that was the candidate sharing their own information they downloaded from ActBlue. Very different than ActBlue selling lists, which it does not do. It's the candidates and PACs that sell and swap.
