The police need to follow up on this targeted harassment.
I hope MP Hannah Spencer gets home to a nice brew after a nightmare day.

Labour needs to stop pandering to the right on immigration, and stop being so aggressively against trans people if it wants to regain the trust of younger voters. They donβt seem to understand how much theyβre putting young people off.

All these people will have various types of human rights claims to stay in the UK at various points. E.g. children born and living in the UK for 7+ years are entitled to status. They will need their parents. Similarly, long lawful residence = increased private life and qualification for status.

The post-2021 immigration surge provides a fiscal benefit. The Home Office is lying.

As Labour keeps moving right. The question is: How low do they want to go?
What about their parents?
@haystackgirl.bsky.social is it clear now? If it comes down to it she will deport children.

Note that the electoral side is that important given how awful this proposal is but... I am sure the sight of sobbing children being handcuffed and dragged onto planes will boost the Government's standing with the progressive voters we're losing.
Fuck. This.
βFor the first time in modern British history, we are seeing the creation of a multi-tier asylum system β one that ranks peopleβs right to protection based on how βdeservingβ the Government decides they are.β www.lbc.co.uk/article/labo...
π"Immigration policy is about the conditions for entry. Citizenship policy is about the conditions for staying permanently & becoming part of the host society.
"One of the many problems with the Labour governmentβs approach to citizenship & immigration is that it has confused one with the other."π
Absolutely right
Again, as with Guardian article, Mahmood's reliance on false/deliberately misleading claims about her "earned settlement" proposals suggests that she knows she can't defend them on the merits, in principle or in practice.
Important to seek clarity today on whether Home Office and No 10 will try to defend - or will now withdraw - a false+misleading claim applying settlement reforms to 2022-24 cohort saves Β£10bn
Not just overspinning lifetime saving in 30 years time
Gvt policy doesn't save maybe Β£8-10 billion of it!
Also important to note that the Home Office's *own figures* imply that care workers/dependents are a fiscal *benefit* in terms of the government's fiscal rules (and on every year for next 30 years).
It is Mahmood who has a fiscal "black hole" to fill.
GB News interviewed him last year, and he used the term ''Boris Wave'' openly to refer to us immigrants several times. Mind you that term was conceived in the depths of Twitter.
My latest piece for the @bigissue.com is out today, on how Labour's attacks on those seeking asylum are not only inhumane, potentially illegal, and seriously counterproductive, but also politically incoherent for a party which claims to be "progressive".

Labour is helping to normalise this rancid discourse.

What are Shabana Mahmoodβs changes to the asylum system?
π¨Inhumane, definitely
π¨Illegal, quite possibly
π¨Ignorant, absolutely
π¨Counterproductive, unarguably
π¨Inconsistent with Labour's claims to be "progress, most certainly
π¨Costly, without a doubt
π¨Risking lives, one hundred percent
That should answer it.

Not even on the same planet? Are you serious right now? Labourβs βearned settlementβ proposals are one of the most extreme policies put forward by the Home Office, and whatβs worse, they want to make them retrospective.
