a–d, Integrated non-dimensional pyrite content (a,c) and isotopic composition (b,d) exported from the sulfidic anoxic zone as functions of Γ0 and Da*. Panels a and b were calculated using the global averaged FeHR content, Ψ0 = 10, whereas panels c and d were calculating using Ψ0 = 1 as a low-iron endmember scenario. e, Example profiles showing predicted non-dimensional species contents/concentrations (OC, Γ; sulfate, Σ; sulfide, η; FeHR, Ψ; and pyrite, Π) and isotopic compositions (d34S_SO4, d34S_S^2- and Δpyrite) as functions of non-dimensional depth, ζ, for three contrasting parameter-space conditions (marked as coloured circles in a–d). Stippled lines and lighter colours represent low Ψ0 whereas solid lines and darker colours represent high Ψ0 conditions. Vectors in panel a represent the expected change in global-average Γ0 and Da* for each bathymetric region when using the oxygen-penetration depth (vector base) vs the mixed-layer depth (vector tip) as model input. Boxes in panel b represent the 5th to 95th percentile range of Γ0 vs Da* extent observed for each bathymetric region in the modern ocean. Vectors in panel d represent global changes to various Earth-system evolution processes discussed in the main text. Sed. rate, sedimentation rate.
A big reason we have an oxygenated atmosphere is because there is a lot more pyrite burial than pyrite oxidation (which wasn't always the case). 🧪⚒️

Darkness frames a single rectangular window, in which a grey London skyline and sky is seen. BT Tower is the focus.
Good morning! How are you feeling? I like to put out something upbeat each day, but today the toll of pain, lack of sleep, open surgery, medication etc is getting to me a bit. Could you send cute cat pictures? But nothing too funny, because laughing really hurts! Okay, I got this. Yeh. #StayBright

It is exactly 10 years ago to the day since I took my first photograph of Aurora. Here's the pic, taken from my back garden. 6 March 2016. 🔭 🧪 🎨 #astrophotography #SciArt #photography #StormHour #ThePhotoHour

Tomorrow I'll be attending/staggering tmanother night time Newcastle match. So many times this season I've been to 8pm and later kickoffs. This latest one has the potential for extra time and pens. Hopefully I'll stay awake. Getting a bus will be 'fun.' They tend to be thin on the ground after 10pm.

I've used computers since 1981. Studying, programming, IT Support, tutoring. Seen so many advancements and yes GenAI is iffy with a capital IF!

March is a great time to spot the odd glow of zodiacal light. Here's how to see it
The zodiacal light is at its most visible on the nights surrounding the spring and autumn equinoxes.
