I’d be vibing out to the music sitting on a folding chair in our Computer Room for like 5–10 minutes before realizing I hadn’t played

“One more turn”? more like “one more song”

the civ IV soundtrack still goes harder than any other game in the history of human entertainment

a whole orchestraed and choralized masterpiece of world music whose soaring melodies make you feel part of the human experience like you’re experiencing all of History in one single moment

Why Jasmine Crockett lost the Dem primary to James Talarico Crockett embarked on her primary bid with a makeshift operation that lacked a campaign manager, a developed fundraising strategy and comprehensive infrastructure for a ground game.

One reason Crockett lost to Talarico: She did not have a campaign manager for the entirety of her run, and while she delegated components of her campaign to trusted advisers, she largely managed operations herself. Talarico outraised her 5 to 1.

The Democratic coalition is best understood as three blocs. The largest bloc-Moderates-hold middle-of-the-road views across many of the most contentious issues in national politics, including immigration, crime, transgender policy, and DEI.
A second bloc-Progressive Liberals-leans left but remains closer to the party's institutional mainstream. A significantly smaller but distinct third bloc-the Woke Fringe—takes consistently maximalist positions on issues and is disproportionately young and conspiratorial.

this is an ideological project masquerading as “neutral” data science

sure, there may be some lessons to glean here, but don’t forget for a second the Manhattan Institute has an agenda they want to push: the Dems are too woke and need to be friendly to the monied donor & consultant class

if Platner had shown remorse or handled this differently, we would be in a different situation! but the truth is he is a nepo baby who has hardly had a real job in his life who was (allegedly) the Pod Save Guys’ coke dealer in DC who had a Nazi tattoo until mere months ago & joked about it!

this is an incredibly clear-eyed analysis & debate on Platner & The Left.

Rose makes powerful arguments in here and I found the countervailing arguments quite lacking, even though I had not been fully in the anti-Platner camp. Platner has shown little to no remorse & is a huge liability

trump capitulating on Noem is a sign of weakness

Trump 1.0 was littered w/ the carcasses of all of the advisors & agency heads Trump & Co discarded. remember scaramuchi or whatever his face was?

Trump 2.0 is (well, was) no apologies, balls to the wall MAGA with loyal advisors who stay. not anymore

Turns out satan’s plan to destroy our world is much like our current plan to destroy Iran - not via smart politics or tactical genius but via crude regime collapse

anecdotally, a couple of relatively apolitical acquaintances from college currently in the military have been posting about how dumb going to war on behalf of israel is so I bet morale amongst the enlisted isn’t the highest rn

how is the military rank-and-file feeling about the prospect that they’ll be called up to parachute into the Iranian mountains to fight a grueling guerilla counter-insurgency & act as an occupying force in an intractable war?

100% - It’s the coverup that reveals the scandal and his coverup (in two senses of the word) revealed to me that he does not care enough about resisting fascism to be a leader worth supporting

sure, he may be elected but why are we wasting energy & oxygen on this guy when we have a world to win

I think this is my main beef with Platner. Instead of being deeply apologetic and reflective, he was snide and indignant in interviews when pressed about it.
