I first went vegetarian 45 years ago and vegan 11 years ago. My family is aware but their eating habits haven't changed. It's distressing, annoying and confounding. I have no vegan friends so I've been fighting alone for animal rights for decades. I know how you feel.

I have a friend who seems to enjoy letting me know when she's cooking meat. I mostly keep quiet, but occasionally say "sounds great, except for the pig /cow / sheep /chicken" I don't know if she's ever seen what happens in a slaughterhouse. She eats suffering and mocks my choice to not.
