Two firefighters resting, sitting on the plinth of the "Citizen Firefighter" statue.
Quite an image on the BBC live page (www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cd...; no photographer credited).
Sounds as if they've saved the station and the hotel, and more importantly, without loss of life.
Citizens; heroes.

Never did a decent day’s work in his life. With the emphasis on the ‘decent’.

Oh what has happened to Nigel Slater, the man who told us it was fine eat tinned baked beans and treacle tart? Kale and noodles? Seriously? The warm apple cake sounds nice though…

Fascinating conversation about why it’s ok to be proud to be Scottish but it’s not the same for the English. How to make the English proud of their past and their present while their flag is being used as a racist trope by some?

And can you tell me why your delay repay app says my train was on time yesterday (6 Feb) and won’t allow me to process a refund when in fact my three hour journey took eight hours?

@lner.co.uk it’s really time you abandoned X and started using Bluesky properly. Most decent people are not on X these days.

And the tangential theory that somehow a fifteen minute city will have us all eating insects is pretty hard to get your head round too.

It’s largely because the people who benefit most from good public transport, walkable environments & local amenities are women and carers who are less likely to have cars, have less money and have more complex daily lives. And the @telegraph.co.uk doesn’t care much about the quality of women’s lives

So tedious! Busy telling us they care about the country whilst making us listen to them fighting like rats in a box. And didn’t Burnham tell Greater Manchester he was committed to them for four years? And people don’t trust politicians?

t’s disgraceful what the Lords have done. I’m in favour of having a second house but they have totally undermined its reason for existing by this anti-democratic behaviour.

A quote from the report into Mossbourne Victoria Park Academy states: Overall, the evidence captured about the voices of pupils paint a picture of a school environment characterised by a profound lack of empathy. One of the pupils recalled their first day, thinking ‘we have to be like robots’ and then being told when they left that staff had been ‘especially instructed to glare at year 7 students, to pick on them and intimidate them’.
‘A school environment characterised by a profound lack of empathy’
My only surprise about this depressing report is how long it has taken for the dark side of the Mossbourne cult to be acknowledged. A lack of care and respect for children was written into the formula and celebrated from day one.
