ZSL have released the State of the Thames Report. It is very interesting and detailed. While focusing on the tidal Thames area it does have implications for our rivers way upstream in Harrow

A great article but unfortunately shows some very grim figures regarding river pollution. 235 misconnections in Harrow. One of the highest in London!
The figures are pretty grim. 235 misconnections in Harrow!
On the left, a pond full of cut birch and other young trees, a large house behind. On the right, the same pond cleared of the cut trees.
Before and after our emergency working party this morning at The Scrape, Wood Farm, clearing an enormous number of trees that vandals had cut and dumped into the water - one of the best quality ponds in Harrow.
Three volunteers with cutting tools cutting young trees, these are sprouts from hazel coppice.
Volunteers from the TCV coppicing hazel at Bentley Priory today. As set out in the manangement plan, we coppiced a third of the hazel; another third will be coppiced next winter, and the last third the winter after that. The wood is not wasted: most will be used for fencing on other reserves.

Image of mouth of brook into River Cherwell showing collection of waste and scum on water.
The contaminated waste piled high in a field near Kidlington is now washing into River Cherwell. In the last 48 hours, the water level has risen 4+ feet and is lapping against the illegal dump.
We stand on the edge of an environmental disaster. We need urgent action from the Environment Agency.
Thanks for the info. Any idea what may have caused this reading? on CVP 10 the temp went down to -100 and the TDS went up to 10000! obviously that didn't really happen, could be something like tinfoil on the sensor?
The first data from the passive monitoring boxes! You can clearly see when they were installed on Friday, then a few days worth of readings after that. Data is sent every 15 minutes. Not sure what the big dip means at 15.34 on sunday was, could be a rain event?
We have installed two passive monitoring boxes on Yeading Brook, part of the River Crane Catchment. These boxes will monitor TDS and water temperature to help us understand what is going on in the stream over time. With thanks to @cvp-cranevalley.bsky.social @brentpollution.bsky.social

Before and after images of the pond called Bolton's Pande; before is very green but there is no open water at all. After had lots of bare ground - no water at all!
Before and after images of clearance at Bolton's Pande in Roxbourne Rough. It looks drastic but now there will be areas of open water when it refills. A female Emperor dragonfly was busy laying eggs in the gaps between the slats of the boardwalk so she has confidence that the pond will refill!
Four people in lush foliage clearing a pond at Roxbourne Rough, Harrow. Purple Loosestrife flowers in the foreground.
Yesterday volunteers began the work of clearing vegetation and mud from Bolton's Pande, a lovely rain fed pond at Roxbourne Rough that is now almost completely dry - but not so dry we did not get muddy! It was full of aquatic life this year but if we did not act it would be dry scrub in a few years.

If you live in #StAlbans #Amersham #Uxbridge or other parts of #Herts #Bucks & #London you may think the impact of #HeathrowExpansion is remote. But building a runway over 5 rivers will harm the connection for fish & otters between the #Thames & #Chilterns
