As a young leftist American, I'll say that it takes some emotional work to detach yourself from celebrations because it's such a cultural staple. In some cases it can be seen as full rejection to not attend a family gathering on a holiday. Privilege plays a part here, but it's a little complicated
First things first: bathroom bans, sports bans, and "don't say gay" bills exist only in order to restrict trans people's ability to publicly exist. They are in response to non-issues and seek to strong-arm people into conforming to personhood defined largely by white supremacy. Hope this helps!
