Look up "Egyptian boomerang" you'll see how they used them. I've also seen a "rabbit stick" in a museum in the American southwest. They were used by the Ute people and looked like a boomerang. It's just a convenient way to hurl a spinning object at something small and tasty.
They are one of the oldest tools in the world. But the concept of "boomerang" is kind of general and not the kind that fly and come back like in Australia. The Australian ๐ช was just the most technologically advanced form of this ancient tool.

Yeah man. India is in such a blind spot in regards to paleo archaeology. Like, look at the animals and environments there, look at the genetics of south east island peoples. All signs point to humans going to and through the subcontinent a LONG time ago. But not many fossils ๐ญ!
A larval Macrourid sighting at 917 m! ROV pilots filmed future-fish during the #OBVI #LivingBioreactors expedition, supported @schmidtsciences.bsky.social. Scientists are studying midwater organisms and how they sequester carbon.
Neat-o! Starlings have changed since they got here (the US). ๐งช

i procrastinated work to ask @echinoblog.bsky.social questions about that "smiling rock" fossil and ended up with this after everyone's verbal explanation.
lots of people seemed confused so maybe this helps. (see the entire thread for context)

Lovely C&EN @cenmag.bsky.social story on the history and personal impact of the cancer drug Taxol. After spending recent years deciphering how yew trees, our source for Taxol, synthesize this lifesaving drug, itโs so nice to see it in the larger context #secmet #medsky

It's a color palette so that the viewer can know what color the coral is regardless of what screen or print the viewer is looking at. It also helps describe how much zooxanthele is in the coral. I think Australia has a standardized color book, but I don't know if it's global
I think the hardest thing to make believable in the film adaptation of #ProjectHailMary is going to be portraying functional governments and citizens who believe in science and work together to allocate resources to solve a problem.
