Estefany Rodriguez is the latest to come under attack for doing her job as a reporter, covering ICE, giving ppl news the Trump admin would like kept secret. She must be released ASAP. She had a work permit, applied for political asylum, her husband is a US citizen, she had no warrant for an arrest.
Journalist Estefany Rodriguez has a valid work permit and was meeting with ICE later this month regarding her immigration status.
Yesterday, she was abducted by ICE agents without an arrest warrant.
This is another attack on the free press and we call for Estefany's immediate release!

ICE’s targeting of Rodriguez is a violation of her First Amendment rights as a member of the media and of the public’s right to know important issues of the day. She had previously criticized the Trump administration online and it is unclear if ICE targeted her for her speech or other coverage. 4/
Rodriguez came to the U.S. on a tourist visa & applied for political asylum. She was on a path to citizenship & her husband is a U.S. citizen. Her attorneys filed an emergency petition in federal court seeking a writ of habeas corpus. 3/
Rodriguez -- a reporter with Noticias in Nashville -- was detained by ICE agents this Wednesday, despite there being no warrant for her arrest. She had fled Colombia in 2021 after facing threats for her coverage of armed militia groups. 2/

Firms should augment such efforts by creating easy avenues for lawyers to take on or advise on cases defending journalistic activities, protest rights, and basic First Amendment conduct for students and others.
Entities like the American Bar Association have made tremendous statements of support for democracy and the rule of law. State-bar associations should follow, encouraging public-interest programming.
We cannot let the flip flopping of Trump's "yes let's attack, no let's not, wait -- let's attack" method be a distraction. Lawyers & law firms must bolster their pro-democracy capacity to better support & defend the field. This includes pro bono commitments to support public-interest litigation.
Courts have ruled that the administration’s chilling actions have clearly violated the First Amendment, affirming expressive rights of law firms.
Trump has lobbed vicious verbal threats at judges, seeking to impeach a chief judge in Washington, D.C. Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller verbally attacked an Oregon judge who blocked the president’s use of the military in Portland, calling the ruling “legal insurrection.”
Various rulings have largely upheld the expressive rights of law firms to represent a diverse set of views and clients. As a result, the judges issuing these rulings have also come under attack.
The White House removed security clearances to federal courthouses for those targeted and Trump signed a bevy of EOs to sanction lawyers who engage in “vexatious litigation” against the US (i.e., lawyers representing people who petition the gov't for redress or otherwise pursue due process).
