While the Kenyans were not university students, one of the challenges (and benefits) was that expectations about workload and how to engage in a college course differ a LOT across contexts. I ended up scaling back the involvement to focus on research projects they worked on together and provided โฆ
So the initial plan was that the Kenyan team attended my lectures in real time regularly. I did some hybrid classes and some with all of us on zoom. I taught the evening shift but morning wouldโve been better for our time difference.
I did a version of this with the Busara Center. My students worked with and had guest lectures from folks in Kenya! It was logistically tricky and work but the students loved it.
Overdue announcement - I'm officially a tenured Associate Professor in Economics at Loyola Marymount University. I feel so grateful to my community of friends, family, mentors, colleagues, and collaborators who have supported me on my journey. I'm excited to continue paying it forward!
