I mean, it was an overt part of his persona, wasn't it?
So I guess I mean to say: the culture celebrated that behavior, and in so doing perpetuated it. But not "the culture" - specific men did this, through their actions and their writing
As a boy, growing up reading SF in the 80s, I read accounts in anthologies by Harlan Ellison etc that made it clear the male authors at conventions were mostly interested in women to hit on them. Now I realize those accounts were trying to teach me how to be a man, or an Important Male Author
Thank you!!
I want to read your poem! And congratulations on publication.
But there's a ghastly, graphic drawing of a suicide in that zine as you flip through it - disturbing enough to me that I stopped looking when I hit it & didn't find your poem
As a Dylan with aspirations of super-ness I admit I took this one to heart

We'll increasingly recognize the limitations of AI in 2026. I wrote a post about it -- and included an AI prompt you can use to make you a better writer.

I just wrote 'The magic of magazines', a very personal reflection on my career in magazines, and also a link to a magazine I helped a client create this year! dylan.tweney.com/the-magic-of...
Lovely! I've never heard that term before. Your explanation makes sense!

Thank you!
One crisp autumn day, on a whim, I sent some haiku to a few friends via SMS. It started a journey that changed my life.
This fall, we celebrated the 25th anniversary of @tinywords.com. Here's more about that story and a haiku workshop I'm leading soon:

How much of today's politics and culture is organized around what straight men won't do because it's gay? Being passed on the freeway is gay. Driving a Prius is gay. When you shake hands, if your hand is underneath the other guy's, you're probably gay.
How long until people realize most AI content is basically crap and stop relying on it?
Not really. I've learned a lot from working on @tinywords.com with Kathe Palka and Peter Newton. But I'm hoping to join a local group in the new year.
How about you?
Sorry to miss that conference - I'm glad you're sharing from it! I went to Haiku North America in September - my very first haiku conference despite working in the form for 25 years. I look forward to attending more haiku gatherings in the future!
Terrific interview - thank you for sharing it here!

βIβm tired of Google mansplaining to me,β one of my friends said recently.
In fact, we can barely open an email, a document, or a search engine without some overeager AI interrupting us with its faux-solicitous recommendations.
