I don’t actually have an office! I’ve fully embraced independent scholar life, which I guess makes my kitchen my office and the cats my bosses

I am also going feral but it’s because I have to play both the role of the ignored staff with expertise and the management who doesn’t listen

I hope Shabbat this week is better than Shabbat last week was. It's a very low bar.

Last Shabbat I literally heard the news from the bimah and wow was that the worst way to experience services

Today in cat companion: This is also why I am behind on my reading, because what am I supposed to do, not stare in admiration at Junior??

#BookHistory mutuals, pls do your magic. A student in my seminar is looking for sources on fingerprints in books. Other than Darnton's reference to inky fingerprints left on the plates of the Encyclopedie, & Folger blog posts by @wynkenhimself.bsky.social, I'm short of ideas. Do you have any? THX!

Today in book historian: Came across a character in a 19th century novel who buys bones and immediately thought, of course, he’s making paper sizing, and then got lost in thought about whether paper for books is sized before or after printing and this is why I’m behind on my reading

THIS RIGHT HERE is what makes Moby-Dick so great. One minute you've got a lunatic screeching while St Elmo's fire burns on the masts, the next you've some serious Transcendental Anatomy dropped in your lap. 🐋

Tribute Post for Fobazi Ettarh - ACRLog With immense sadness, the writers of ACRLog acknowledge the passing of Fobazi Ettarh, library worker and influential LIS scholar. If you are able to contribute, there is a GoFundMe established for Fob...

My colleagues at ACRLog wrote short tributes to the life and work of Fobazi Ettarh @fobettarh.bsky.social. I wrote about her work on disability, which I think deserves more recognition. acrlog.org/2026/03/04/t...

Thanks @ezerrenner.bsky.social for coordinating. #CripLib #VocationalAwe

Also being an early modernist is shockingly helpful in handling its excess and shagginess. Like, other people think it should be plot, but I’m totally into the constant interruption of plot with important ideological tricks

Why? Why do we live in the most stupid and criminal of times?

(Please don’t explain to me, I know, I just am really feeling it right now)

(The answer is racism and sexism and MONEY)

A man asked me last night what publishing needs to do for literary fiction to begin appealing to men again. I said, as nicely as I could, that, with over 2,000 books published every Tuesday, of which many would appeal to men, it’s not a publishing problem, it’s a men problem.

Through its haste and recklessness, the Trump administration has effectively trapped hundreds of thousands of Americans in an active war zone.

I'm just a 16th centuryist at heart! A reasonable number of printers! A countable number of books! The ability to think in terms of editions and states and even ideal copy!! The only thing more terrifying than the 18th century is the 19th.
