A star-sucker pygmy octopus (Octopus wolfi) against a white background. It is facing the left, and it has its arms stretched out and curved. One arm reaches forward, and another reaches back, and the others reach outward. It has two rows of suckers per arm. It is an brownish orange colour.

The octopus has a round mantle and a head with round black eyes, but its body is dwarfed by its webbing that is several times the length of its body. The octopus's body is dark reddish orange to orangish yellow with white around its mantle opening, with its arms being dark reddish orange. Its webbing has a mix of colours and is generally in lengthwise stripes, with a mix of purple, dark blue and green in one stripe, to a orange stripe with black spots with yellow rings, to light yellow stripe, to orange, to reddish orange, to purple.

Female blanket octopuses (genus Tremoctopus) have large, colourful webbing between their arms. They unfurl this webbing to make then look larger and more intimidating.

Males are tiny (only a few centimetres long max) and don't have this webbing.
