My latest SC7 column is up at @saltcityhoops.bsky.social, in which I look at Keyonte George putting himself in pretty special company, Cody cutting all over, some Ace Bailey history and more!
Link next.
The Jazz go nearly wire-to-wire in defeating the Zombie Wiz in Washington, thanks to a boatload of points from their rookie, more gear-change drives from Collier, a meaty double-double from Flip, confident night from Cody... but there's only one π, so who gets it?
I immediately thought about how you were saying the other day they needed to sign a real center to a 10-day.
Iβll say this: Jazz fans are cool.
Vince has been on their favorite team for less than 3 wks, and the amount of protective anger about his totally avoidable injury, as well as earnest concern for how it impacts the future of someone weβre just getting to knowβ¦
You guys are just neat. Heal up, VW!
For the Jazz youngsters, they are about to play the most important games of their lives
If they want minutes next year and another contract, they better show up now

also, here's @danclayt0n.bsky.social's latest weekly deep dive on all things Utah Jazz:
www.saltcityhoops.com/posts/sc7-cr...
Both! Grew up in Utah, but have been covering them since 2003-04 for different outlets, including currently commentatinbg on the team's Spanish-language radio feed. We're back in SLC now, but we loved Brooklyn & miss it.
The thing is, the Pels should really want to win those 7 head-to-head games, and the other teams will probably gladly oblige. If that happens, then they're past the Jazz even if Utah wins their other 4 against the dregs. Then we'll see who gets some unbudgeted other Ws. IOW: 5 is really in play.
Forgot to the update the home/road split for teams, here's a corrected version:
Lived in Brooklyn for nearly 7 years, walking distance to Barclays.
Everybody in this group has 24-27 games left.
NOP (with no motivation to lose) and Sac (with a whopping 9 games left against this group) could wind up being sneaky important in this race.
Been here for a minute, I just haven't really been doing much else other than occasionally taking what I post over there and replicating it.
C'mon, I feel like these days you run circles around me, and you watch a TON of ball.
What's going on, bluesky? I feel like I haven't really found the engagement yet over here, but I want to.
If I was following you at the other place and I'm not yet over here, let me know so I can get my feed built up. (Or hell, even if I wasn't over there, let's get this thing popping.)
I hear you, but I think that's where this is headed anyway... and maybe it's OK for the message to the Kings to be "look, you can pick 5th every year until you figure out a way to get this turned around, but we're not wasting Flagg or Wemby on you until you figure out how to be slightly less awful"
Finally, a system that works!
Late season Kings-Wiz could feel like a playoff game if one team felt like they could push their opponent below the minimum qualifier and steal some % of their draft chances. Could make those games super interesting, plus it sends the message that you have to do some of the work to lift yourself up.
I just fundamentally oppose proposals that give OKC a 2.3% chance at getting Darryn Peterson. Like, how is that better for the NBA in the long run?
I think my favorite is keep the odds (or revert to pre-flattened) but you have to be within X games of the worst playoff team to get your full odds.
And then each chip represents a 1/44 chance of winning the lottery?
If you ever have thoughts and want to put them somewhere, let me know!
Here's the thing about your favorite lottery reform idea: it probably stinks.
Most proposals ignore fundamental questions and have glaring issues far worse than the ones we'd be "fixing." Join me as I poke holes, for @saltcityhoops.bsky.social:

The exact angle of Utah's ascent next season will be determined by a factor the Jazz can spend their final 26 games exploring, I explain at @saltcityhoops.bsky.social.
Plus, an auspicious hint about next year's D identity, Ace Bailey clutch creation & more.

The NBA did something yesterday that it has never, ever done. Regardless of what you think about tanking and the Utah Jazz, it's worth asking if we're OK with the league telling teams when they can and can't sub players. For @saltcityhoops.bsky.social:

20+ streaks to start a Jazz career:
Spencer Haywood (5): 27-27-20-23-25
Adrian Dantley (20): I'm not listing them all lol
Jaren Jackson Jr. (3 and counting): 22-22-23...
The Jazz didn't have any trouble with the Kings, who lost their 14th straight and might get downgraded to Dukes or Viscounts. We need to give away a π, though... who you got?
Had fatherly duties tonight so just finished Jazz-Heat. That means we need to give away the 17th game ball of the year as Utah matches last season's win total in early Feb. Who gets the π from South Beach?
In this weeks' Salt City Seven column, I looked at plays from JJJ's first appearance in purple, plus Collier's historic week, stats you won't want to miss, and a great story about John Konchar. Catch it here at @saltcityhoops.bsky.social:

Now that we know from @loudclap.bsky.social's work that these were actually five separate deals and what the cash details were, here's an updated trade deadline recap graphic for posterity:
Last one of these until we reach the All-Star break.
- No reason for Pels to lose and they're playing their guys, winning some
- Sac has an easy schedule left... but also isn't good
- Indy, Wiz, Jazz all have protected pick debts
- Dallas has a crazy road-home balance to close
