God I hate that Gen X attitude that you're apparently not supposed to care or be passionate about your work. Like bitch I will talk about my OCs for hours if you let me I should be allowed to openly love my work!!!!!!!

the idea that people making art has the attitude of "it doesn't need to be special" and that it's the exception to care about the quality of what they make is such a revealing self-own

Ironically, the work I did for Mirrorverse was a great experience because of how much the team actually cared about Belle, Beauty and the Beast, and doing the character and her history justice! It was wonderful to work with people so openly excited about the project.

A plague upon the houses of that Gen X philosophy of pretending you don't love or care about the things you create!!! I had the misfortune to work for a company that outright denigrated employees that admitted to any kind of passion for the stories they put out and it was the worst job I ever had.

A reminder in stream chat etiquette that foreshadowing is also spoilers. Someone last night said “get tissues” and it instantly gave away what was about to happen taking away the surprise and emotion from the moment. Please have self control and let people experience things 😑

All of this. Plus their makers stole all our work, are trying to change our IP laws to lionise this theft, took a sledgehammer to the creative economy and successfully reframed predictive text generation as the zenith of artistic achievement

Also, the fascism

This is a great article about some really scummy practises, and the gutting of games media for parts. Gambling shit is everywhere now, and it's miserable.

Games media continuing to cover Call of Duty uncritically like any other franchise, while ignoring its substantial role in the rise of Western authoritarianism is one of the greatest morale failings in an industry with morale standards best described as "When they are convenient to have."

Anyway...

That the windows 12 news is fake is relatively inconsequential when taking into account the believability of the claims that were being made. Microsoft has curated an identity in the last few years where a subscription supported AI focused windows 12 releasing this year wasn't very surprising.

Since 2016 Ireland spent 5 BILLION on asylum accom. Asylum seekers get treated terribly in abhorrent conditions, they are the product

It's all just a barely monitored system to put as much public money into private hands

New bill to worsen passed without oversight!

I would like to do an in-conversation with an experienced therapist where we talk through a harm-reduction approach to using AI for therapy.

I feel like - as with writing - there's a lot of collegiate pressure not to give an inch or even acknowledge that people are using it like this.

Sorry I'm not more open-minded about LLMs, it's just some fucking maniacs shoveled out a bunch of useless bloatware featuring that technology, did not give me any chance to opt out, reorganized the entire economy around it, zeroed out gains made by green energy, and made it impossible to buy RAM

Artist palette mixer. Mix a color incrementally using a color spectrum or a custom artistic colors palette (comes with some presets like Zorn palette). Add colors directly to a new palette. RGB,LAB and Pigment mixing, blend modes. Try it here:

Increasingly literally, people who write for a living, especially about computing, are simply generating raw material for AI summaries, not addressing an actual readership.

The Financial Times is reporting that the Trump administration plans to debate the matter of Tencent’s US-based gaming investments as a "national security risk."

The situation could see the US pressure Tencent to divest from companies like Riot Games and Epic Games, among others.

Since it's making the rounds, no I won't be at GDC because I can't take the risk of tossing money being unemployed to eventually get nothing in return for it other than a potential arrest by ICE/TSA and getting stuck in a fascist country detention center.

It was in those spaces, in the late 2010s, that I realized that the fundamentalist Christians I’d grown up with weren’t the only people enforcing rigid ideas about how others should think. After arriving in New York with mainstream Democratic views, I took classes heavy on critical theories that fixated on identity categories and reflexively decried capitalism and the West. Within influential LGBTQ organizations, gay rights had given way to radical queer politics, and academic theories about sex and gender had hardened into doctrine. Widespread revulsion toward Donald Trump had narrowed the boundaries of permissible discussion on the left. The more Trump and his followers opposed something, the more we were supposed to support it. The prevailing view was that any debate within our side would become ammunition for the right.

For a long time, I feared that if I didn’t keep my thoughts to myself, I would lose the only community I’d ever really belonged in. As controversy flared up nationally about pediatric gender medicine, though, I started voicing concerns, rooted in my own experiences, over what looked to me like a rush to medical treatment. For all the sloganeering about protecting trans kids, I heard no discussion about protecting effeminate gay boys from unnecessary medicalization. When I and others asked whether progressive norms might be nudging effeminate gay boys to think of themselves as girls, no one wanted to hear it. Instead of answers, we were given the LGBTQ community’s official line. “Gender identity and sexual orientation are two different things,” the Human Rights Campaign asserts. But the confidence with which people claim that the two have nothing to do with each other is hard to square with research findings: According to data collected mostly before the recent surge in pediatric-dysphoria diagnoses, most prepubescent children who experienced gender distress went on to experience same-sex attraction and ultimately did not pursue a gender transition. Of 70 adolescents whom Dutch clinicians subjected to puberty suppression from 2000 to 2008, the overwhelming majority were attracted exclusively to people of their biological sex.

Straightforward right-wing agitprop. The idea that thousands of kids were pushed into gender-affirming surgeries because the left shuts down debate is a laughable conspiracy theory. The overwhelming social pressure is to be cis, not trans!

I’d really love to see some current journalists try to go back and interview some of the older journalists and editors responsible for pushing this kind of shit - really turn the magnifying glass inward to pick it all apart & hopefully encourage better introspection for the future…

When you begin to think of these things as a form of destructive addiction, it starts to make a lot more sense.

They grant a temporary (but fake) sensation of knowledge and skill that the user *doesn’t actually have*; STOPPING their usage then means losing that (fake) feeling, & starting from zero.

AI and plagiarism (besides being the same thing in effect) also cause the same end result - dependence.

Repeated use makes them into a crutch that the user is afraid to get rid of. So over time their own self-confidence and ability to think creatively erodes - until at last “aid” becomes mandatory.
