Encaustic wax painting on 9 panels depicting a mountain with active clouds in the sky above. A scene encountered on a drive from Hólmavík to Akureyri on a typical summer day serves as the reference for this piece. It seemed fitting to depict it using earthy materials like coal and wax, coaxing the image into being with heat and perseverance. Is it the earth that influences its inhabitants, or the other way around?

And now for something a little different - an idea that had been sitting in a drawer for months is now a reality.

Pastel painting of a tree standing alone, defiantly with branch up in an elegant post. Hot pink underpainting pops through the ground, sky and throughout the whole painting. This tree was one still standing after 100s were removed to clear the landing path of the domestic airport.

Touched this one up today and calling it done. This tree survived the clearing of trees in Öskjuhlíð, February 2025.

I scaled up the birch trees to 21x27 inches! Pastel on Uart. The strokes came out kinda linear, but that's how it came out.
