I remember what a relief it was not to have that special someone be ME ME ME ME ME every day, all the time, top headline, unavoidable, and everywhere.

Perspective: I was an Air Force captain. I was a decent captain, but still - a captain. If someone had approached me to say "when you make major you will be eligible to be the Secretary of Defense!" I would have laughed and rolled my eyes. But here we are.

Her recipe is the best. I double the veggies (and triple the recipe and freeze 2-serving containers).

For my non-librarian followers, I can't overstate the value of the Institute of Museum & Library Services, a tiny federal agency that punches way above its weight and supports many services we take for granted.

To my mind, the government largely β€œshut down” on January 20. The rest, as they say, is commentary.

If you wanted to cut waste, fraud, and abuse, you would empower the inspectors general.

If you wanted more waste, fraud, and abuse, you would fire them.

Pretty much used to this, as a woman, but it's still infuriating and disappointing.

Happy Lunar New Year! I baked these almond cookies for church coffee hour to celebrate. A fun bake, and they were yummy. Recipe from King Arthur Baking Company.

RONALD REAGAN (1988): We should be aware of the demagogues who are ready to declare a trade war against our friends, weakening our economy, our national security, and the entire free worldβ€”all while cynically waving the American flag.

I loved doing lit reviews for my doctoral studies. As a librarian, it felt almost like I was getting away with something that I could spend so much time on a deep deep dive into the search for All Of The Things, and then puzzle the parts together, respond to them, and find the figure in the carpet.

speaking of sous vide... I feel that in a recent video you made passing reference to using an AIO as a sous vide for part of the brewing process. Did I make that up? I have been considering using my Mash & Boil for cheesemaking. Or I could get a sous vide I guess!

Thank you for sharing advice about reading your writing out loud. I am currently a hostage in a group editing environment where we are producing a "statement" for 50k people, and just a simple read-out (which no one will do) makes it obvious that it's descending into gibberish. Read... out... loud.

I came here to say exactly that. He could have said nothing and let his handlers murmur concerns, or reverted to the standard thoughts and prayers, but he doesn't have that wiring in him.

What I recall is that the noodles would slide around on the plate while I chased them with my fork. In retrospect, an oddly awkward side dish. Then again I also ate a lot of Rice-A-Roni, which is basically "salt, but make it lumpy."

2025 is the year I call out ageism. The comments on this post -underscore how important that is. I also appreciate the podcaster - @caseynewton.bsky.social perhaps? - who recently observed the use of "white" to hide discrimination, as in "old white lady."
