A beautiful meeting room at @swisspolar.bsky.social (Sion) hosted us to discuss final data from Arctic Century Cruise (2021). Santa Anna Trough still remains an unexplored area of the Arctic Ocean, but yet crucial to understand changes in the Central Arctic.

Solving this oceanic mystery could help predict our future on Earth Understanding these northerly ocean currents could help scientists predict if—or when—warming temperatures could cause a world-altering change.

The Nordic Seas are one of the main source regions of deep water formation and thus a key area to understand the role of oceans in regulating climate. Research Vessel #Armstrong from #WHOI is there right now with the aim to study these processes in depth @usyseth.bsky.social @ethzurich.bsky.social

Last August was the warmest one ever recorded. A clear hotspot is the Barents Sea opening, at the entrance of the Arctic Ocean. Three PhD students from @TITANICA are currently at sea and taking water samples to collect evidence. Here a few impressions. @usyseth.bsky.social @ethzurich.bsky.social
