Another fun fact: If "Mr. Brightside" were a person, it would be old enough to go to a bar and drink and belt out "Mr. Brightside."

I became Senior VP at a multi-million dollar company at age 26. My salary was $600k. This was in 2018.
How did I do it?

Blacked out lines

CEO (my dad) promoted me to SVP.
There are no gimmicks. There are no shortcuts.

Watched No Other Choice last night and it truly was a masterpiece. Highly recc it folks! Not really shocked the Academy snubbed it tho because 1. They self admittedly dont even watch the films that are nominated and 2. The anti-captalist message is spread so thick through the entirety.

Just so I'm clear on this, computer memory has tripled in price because a bunch of it that hasn't been produced yet has been ordered to populate GPUs that aren't installed in data centers that aren't built yet in order to service a demand that doesn't exist to make profits that don't happen.

screenshot of a post on facebook from Alex Lamoreaux, depicting two versions of the "same" photograph of a bobcat in front of a pine plantation, one labeled original game cam photo, one labeling AI processed

the markings have been altered on the AI photo, and the head changed and resized

text says:

Oh! A neat goose hybrid posted to β€˜What’s this Bird?’ but when you zoom in on the photos the bill details have been too manipulated by AI photo editing to be accurately assessed for which species may be involved.
Scroll on… A cool-looking Red-tailed Hawk that someone is wondering which subspecies it might be - right up my alley! But when you zoom in on the photos literally every feather group has been so heavily manipulated and altered by AI editing that it’s impossible to determine subspecies because the photo is essentially fake now; just a mashup of whatever AI thinks parts of a Red-tail should look like.
Scroll on… WOW! That’s a remarkable trail cam photo of a Bobcat! It almost looks like a painting!… but the head looks oddly small…. hmmmm. After some prodding the original photo is produced and sure enough it had been so heavily altered by AI β€˜post processing’ that the photo posted was essentially a digital mock-up with totally different proportions and fur markings. No longer the photo off the trail cam; it may as well have just been β€˜created’ by AI from scratch.
This stuff is killing me. My days on social media are becoming very limited. We can’t even trust simple, everyday photos of animals to be real. The wildlife community needs to quit editing with AI, and we need to start calling out photographers that are using it. Our reality is being destroyed all around us.

this field biologist does a great job highlighting the insidiousness of AI editing

these one-click AI edit buttons are incredibly appealing to many photographers, amateurs and professionals alike, and are framed as innocuous

this is worth sharing and educating people about

I have a lifelong connection to Victoria’s state library – which is why I am aghast at its crude self-lobotomy | Gideon Haigh If the β€˜suits’ can come for the State Library of Victoria, they can come for anyone, and no public institution is safe Pardon me that this is a little personal. I first visited the State Library of Victoria aged 12. I held books retrieved from its mountainous stacks with trembling hands. Its stupendous card catalogue blew my schoolboy mind. Search my name in the modern electronic counterpart today and it appears 125 times, mostly for works I researched there. My 84-year-old mother has been a volunteer library tour guide for more than a decade. Continue reading...

Look you just have to make the cool weird shit that excites you. You must. In this world besieged by bland, scrubbed boring, computer slop, you must. Make the thing you’re embarrassed to make, the thing that feels β€œtoo much” because otherwise we get drowned in a sea of cowardly work made by a button

In my 20s I'd make a shirt for every concert I went to because I was obsessed with getting to the front of the D and that meant queuing for merch was impossible. Plus they never had my size. Except RATM. Bless RATM for selling extra smols!! I got it on the way out cause it was the only size left!

Very jealous you got to catch Daft Punk tho. They were on my bucket list for a long time but I never managed to get tickets. Same with Fleetwood Mac.
Radiohead are another that I've consistently missed but perhaps that ship has not sailed for me yet... *putting it into the universe*
