Views from the Watershed Podcast Tour Views from the Watershed is a podcast tour about the past, present, and future of NYC’s water supply in the Catskills region.

For a window into the politics & history of urban/rural relationships & environmental management/infrastructure, I can't recommend highly enough the 14-episode "Walking the Watershed" podcast "tour" of the NY Catskills watershed including work by @lissaharris.bsky.social among other participants.

Otters as ocean doctors: How a 40-year watch on Brazil's coasts reveals hidden threats to estuaries For 40 years, scientists have been monitoring the Neotropical otter (Lontra longicaudis) along the southern coast of Brazil.

Neotropical otters along Brazil’s coast serve as indicators of estuary health, with declines in sightings and exposure to land-based pollutants highlighting the need for watershed-wide management. doi.org/hbppnk

The Potomac was successfully targeted for YEARS to clean up due to decades of pollution.
We were making remarkable headway.

Between this and the EPA roll backs the Potomac is fkd again.

250 million gallons of sewage into the Potomac is not great, but Trump last week gave the green light to 6 *billion* tons of climate pollution into the air every year, forever.

When we trawled data on excess nitrate & phosphate pollution (key drivers of algal blooms) we found agriculture was the primary source in rural areas, sewage in urban areas. As Chowns says, to save our rivers, we need to tackle both.

Sewage spills in London and South East worse than ever this year Some overflows have been releasing sewage into rivers non-stop for over a week as the network struggles to deal with wet weather

This government promised to be tough on sewage pollution.

Thames Water has polluted for 80,000 hours in the first six weeks of 2026 alone.

That's a 75% increase on the same period last year.

Regulation has FAILED. It's time for public ownership of water.
