It's wild to me that I heard so much about pregnancy and postpartum hormones before I ever got pregnant, but I never heard about weaning hormones until a few months after I actually had a baby
also i miss scishow tangents because what do you mean I can't write a truth or fail about ben franklin participating in a blinded trial to debunk mesmerism
it's only february, but finding out that the history of clinical trials can be connected to fake exorcisms is one of my favorite things i've learned this year

me, emotionally writing an essay on the use of force by federal agents: ok but what if i packaged this in the most insane way possible www.theverge.com/policy/86857...
I had a video call with @hankgreen.bsky.social that I took in the gym, and now I'm worried that anyone walking behind me would have thought I was having an animated conversation with a science youtube video
i didn't realize how much having a toddler involves sending them on meaningless quests to keep them busy, and every time I feel like a tired wizard in a fantasy book trying to keep the humans busy so they don't set the world on fire or something
I know I posted on bluesky a while ago, but I kept thinking (and yelling) in my head about it, so here's so more ranting and raving, plus my answer to people trying to find a good source of facts on the internet

my job mostly involves googling science things all day, and it's been terrible to see how much worse that's become over the last few years. but not being able to trust government websites for basic science information really takes things to a new low
the corollary to people getting mad that a post on the internet not capturing their specific experience are people who make a broad critical post that, after getting pushback, is revealed to be about a very niche set of circumstances
shoutout to Tiny Matters intern Lilley Halloran, who wrote our latest episode about shipwreck ecology that I've been telling everyone about because I'm so excited about it

Between Selling Sunset, Selling the OC, and Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, it's a great time to be a fan of watching toxic workplaces implode

you truly never know what you'll get with nonfiction book club
about to talk to @okidokiboki.bsky.social about So Many Stars for book club! www.youtube.com/live/SVNWMoG...
Threads only exists to update me about what's going on in internet book world, and to make me regret my belief from several years ago that the world of fanfiction would be good for romance publishing actually
Iβm petrified about todayβs science news. Genetically modifying crabs to have cheetah genes? This could go sideways fast.
EGGGGSSSSSSS
before working on this episode, i'd never thought about the fact that male seahorses have placentas, and now I can't stop thinking about it

a yoga ball! bouncing on it was the major way my husband was able to keep baby soothed while I was trying to sleep. also, learning about new parent meet-up groups and lactation support groups was a huge help for my sanity
Tiny Matters in good company!
paying taxes and setting aside money for retirement feels weird and fake right now
This weekend @okidokiboki.bsky.social and I are kicking off our non fiction book club 5 year bracket extravaganza and I decided to record myself preparing for that and looking back on my half of the 40 (!!!!) books we have read (and honestly some of her picks too): www.youtube.com/watch?v=7QGE...
being pregnant is weird, and being pregnant after miscarriages is also weird. but trying to figure out how to talk about pregnancy after miscarriages was surprisingly the weirdest thing to me. a year after i filmed this video, i finally feel ready to talk about it
