One of these research specialist positions is a little different than our typical RS posting: We're hiring specifically for a project on homelessness, and we're hoping to find someone familiar with the world of CoCs and HMIS
Come work with us. We are looking for research specialists and an administrative assistant. More information at tinyurl.com/evictionlab2025

When home heating is less affordable, more people die each winter. That's what our analysis found for a period when LIHEAP was in place. Without LIHEAP, the effect would presumably much larger.

Totally unusable. I also get fake right coded movie news ("Kathleen Kennedy resigns from LucasFilm!") and whatever the hell crap this is
After engaging with a lot of NFL content over the last month (Go Birds!), my FB feed has become infested with Fake NFL News. Obviously no agenda here other than to farm clicks, but what a terrible sign for our information environment.
On Broad St right now
What should I read on homelessness in the UK?
I'm watching an elementary school spelling bee. A kindergartner asked to spell "eagle" launched straight into the Eagles chant and almost lost it by saying the "s"
"The order, issued on Friday, would stop landlords from evicting a tenant for violating a term of their lease that would otherwise prohibit them from sheltering others."

I wasn't complaining! I was happy to see so many people using Septa!
I tried! Every entrance swamped

This looks interesting. NJ Governor Phil Murphy is reportedly going to turn his cannon on exclusionary local zoning laws in his last year in office. A statement is expected as part of his "State of the State" speech this afternoon... www.njspotlightnews.org/2025/01/nj-g...

But also thinking about negative effect of rushed moves on a family, there's a world of difference between having one month's notice you need to find a new place (50% YoY hike) and several years notice you need to find a new place (with an anti-gouging law in effect)
I wish we had better data on this (rent ledgers are very hard to come by). But:
1) anti-gouging laws wouldn't stop the majority of evictions. Just look at the high rate in public housing
2) enough evictions follow an egregious rent hike that anti-gouging laws would help a meaningful number of HHs
Rooting against Dak Prescott -- feels great. Meanwhile Daniel Jones failed to evoke any emotion me, positive or negative
Jayden Daniels is so likeable, I hate that I have to root against him for the next 10+ years
Yeah, it's my favorite along with BotNS. I don't want to spoil anything obviously, but Peace is the work I recommend for friends who are less into genre fiction.
Interesting, I find Peace to be his most accessible (and contender for most beautifully written) novel. Book 1 of Fifth Head is accessible and wonderful as a stand-alone story, but Book 2 really threw me.
I reviewed Brian McCabe and @evarosen.bsky.social 's Sociology of Housing! It "demonstrates how racism and entrenched power have brought us to where we are today: A housing market defined by immense wealth, deep poverty, and persistent inequalities."

"Nearly 150,000 children experienced homelessness on a single night in 2024, reflecting a 33 percent increase. Children were the age group that experienced the largest increase in homelessness."

If the Trump admin privatizes the GSEs, that will cause mortgage rates and/or insurance costs in high climate risk areas to increase, right?

We've seen this year how SEPTA's fate hinges on a few votes in the PA assembly. Rapid growth in SEPA before the next redistricting could be the difference between a subway expansion and a death spiral!
Compare NJ and DE to PA. We need to wait until county level estimates are released to find out if SEPA is keeping up with its neighbors.
Thank you! We couldn't do it without our design partners @jamesminton.bsky.social and team at @hyper0bjekt.bsky.social
