GPS tracking shows spatial and habitat segregation between Antarctic and snow petrels breeding in sympatry in Antarctica, highlighting different dependencies on sea ice and potential vulnerability to climate change.

How do penguins track their prey? GPS monitoring over 13 years showed they forage in a restricted area to reduce search times but keep changing exact locations (at 2km scale) to adapt to the dynamic environmental conditions.

And you know, you can extend from this to a real important corallary to "Everyone is 12 Now" theory is "There has been a generation-long project to keep people 12."

Conservative news and opinon outlets, regressive mass audience entertainment products, etc. all propagandize a chilidish worldview.

Birds are vanishing from tropical forests. Is another β€˜silent spring’ coming? As mysterious bird declines crop up in the Amazon and beyond, scientists suspect climate change may be to blame

"The number of birds captured in mist nets plummeted by 40% between 2001 and 2014. Likewise, bird numbers fell by 50% during systematic surveys of birds by sight and sound. The most severe declines occurred among species that feed on insects."

I believe O’Neill would be the second director in NSF history without a PhD, and the first without any sort of research background. (Eric Bloch, director from 1984-1990, was an engineer who worked at IBM.)

I’ll add that Maine’s is interesting because it’s not a single species. It’s just β€˜chickadee’. We have two non-vagrant options and there isn’t clarity on which. Though the old license plates had a black-capped.

Fig. 1 from the article: Three potential processes resulting in two species with different nonbreeding strategies: (A) nonbreeding adaptive divergence arises after complete reproductive isolation. (B) Diverging lineages evolve nonbreeding divergence during a period of allopatry. Scenario (C) is a proposed model of sympatric speciation via the evolution of novel nonbreeding strategies. Alternatively, in scenario (D), divergence in nonbreeding strategies arises but does not precipitate reproductive isolation.
