Educational institutions are data-rich but rarely use it to improve learning. Scott White’s Forbes piece highlights how data and tech can personalise education, close gaps, and create new opportunities.

How does an LLM ‘think’ and why does it struggle with math(s) and logic?
Anthropic’s research on circuit tracing shows LLMs estimate, adjust, and sometimes get it wrong. In poetry, different pathways shape responses that feel intentional but aren’t always accurate.

“The world that, you know, kids that are about to be born, the only world they will know is a world with AI in it, and that'll be natural. Of course, it can do things we can't, but also who really cares.”

Q2: In what ways do you think assessment practice in HE might be experienced unevenly by students of colour - can you provide examples? #LTHEchat
Love this @amandaseys.bsky.social - AI can be an excellent crutch and indeed a supportive tutor! The balance has to be found in not becoming too dependent on it #LTHEchat
The biggest problem with using generative AI is that it requires expert level knowledge to spot whether or not its output is twaddle.
Eg. Teachers need expert knowledge of pedagogy to know whether AI lessons are rubbish.
The thought of a novice student using AI to help them learn is nonsensical.

Happy New Year / Beannachtaí na hAthbhliana
Lovely to feel well rested and time to start my 2025 journey
As we move toward 2025, I find myself reflecting on the state of education with the many changes (or the lack of them) that I’ve witnessed over the years.
As we enter 2025, I’m not here to offer all the answers, but to ask the right questions...
