Excellent response from Hasan Piker, who was scheduled to debate Charlie Kirk in two weeks. On his stream he said: βThe reverberation of people seeking out vengeance in the aftermath of this violent, abhorrent incident is going to be genuinely worrisome.β Also talked about his own vulnerability
being totally comfortable speaking this way to millions of people is one of many signals that we're in an extremely dark place
Whether or not you support political violence wonβt change where weβve come to, nor where weβve been for some time in this country. I am quite taken aback by how many people only invoke the term βpolitical violenceβ when it happens to a person with power. Itβs political violence the other way too.
While cops were freaking out at the nothing happening at Columbia yesterday, other cops were using chemical weapons banned in actual war as actual war crimes against students at CCNY just a dozen blocks north up in Harlem

the @chronicle.com has launched what is going to be a tremendously useful tool: a tracker of the Trump administration's activities affecting higher ed, particularly in the areas of civil rights, research, policy, and immigration. check it out: www.chronicle.com/article/trac...
Yup!
A reminder that if the government can send migrants to a prison camp without any due process, it can send U.S. citizens there, too. I know because this happened to me and my family in 1942.
Nayib Bukele, the president of El Salvador, responded to news of the judgeβs order by posting a GIF of a confused bunny on X.
Financial Times: "I feel liberated," said a top banker. "We can say 'retard' and 'pussy' without fear of getting cancelled...it's a new dawn." Some Wall Streeters also feel able to embrace making money openly, without nodding to any broader social goals. "Most of us don't have to kiss ass because like Trump we love America and capitalism"

As a Columbine survivor, itβs the lmao that really does it for me.

Yesterday, I was laid off after 10 years at HuffPost. Iβm obviously gutted. But once I take a breath, Iβll be open to jobs & freelance work, both in journalism and outside of it, given the state of our industry.

SCOOP: I just received a copy of the email sent by Andreessen Horowitz to limited partners and investors announcing the hire of Daniel Penny. "Investors (LPs) are almost universally pissed," my source told me.
Source doesn't want images shared, but here are some excerpts from the email...
After 11 years, my time at HuffPost is coming to an end tomorrow.
Last week, I learned HuffPost would be ending its dedicated coverage of energy and climate change.
So, I took a buyout.
Sorry, remind me, what was the conspiracy that the rioters used to justify their attack on the Capitol?
Han Kangβs Nobel Prize speech next week is going to be VERY interesting
Perfect EXCEPT for the crimes committed against Defying Gravity. Why would you take a song we all love to sing along to and break it up into little unsatisfying bits??? Bewildering!
Otherwise, so much fun!!
It was perfect? Do not believe the inexplicable Vulture review saying that it did not achieve sufficiently deranged energy for musical success!! False! Lies!!
I have seen the Wicked movie, and it gives me no pleasure to report that I will be fully reverting to my most cringe 2003 theater nerd self for the next several weeks. Please respect my familyβs privacy during this difficult time.
A grid of nine diagrams of different bird foot morphologies: with toes pointing in different direction, different numbers of toes and so on) Each one is labeled with its official biological term, and a letter from A to I.
We were just wondering...
Which Avian foot morphology are you today?

If so, you're in luck! Here's a LIST of all the former BFN people I could find on this app (a starter pack was too small to include everybody): bsky.app/profile/did:...
"Georgia officials have dismissed all members of a state committee charged with investigating deaths of pregnant women.
"The move came in response to ProPublica having obtained internal reports detailing two deaths."
