Proud to share our review of sociodemographic data reported in 409 Canadian-led adult critical care studies (~6M patients).
Most reported age & sex, but far fewer reported other sociodemographic factors shaping who becomes critically ill and who benefits from the evidence.

This was so rewarding to do in the midst of everything else -- brilliant young people committed to discovering true things about the world, and using those true things to make the world better
I am grateful to share that I've successfully defended my PhD!
This journey has been shaped by extraordinary mentors, colleagues, & friends. Deep thanks to my committee, Chair and external examiner @iwashyna.bsky.social, for their thoughtful engagement and support.
More to come on next steps soon!
Congratulations to the indefatigable microbiologist Dr. Allison McGeer on her appointment to the #OrderofCanada. From SARS to flu to COVID and antimicrobial resistance, she is advancing science through her research, and promoting scientific literacy with her media appearances.

Patient expectations and pay inequality:
Physician and patient identities influence the ways that expectations are formed, communicated, and perceived, helping explain observed differences in income based on physician gender, race, and immigration status.

Excited to be co-author on this study published today in @cmaj.ca looking at pay disparities between physicians based on social identity.
One possible contributor: doctors often adjust how they practice based on identity-driven expectations of patients. www.cmaj.ca/content/197/...

Spent the morning at CBC Studios in Toronto, where we joined Matt Galloway on The Current.
We discussed the significant burden of sepsisβaccounting for 1 in 5 hospitalizationsβand emphasized the need for a coordinated, proactive approach to tackling it.

Sepsis is a hospital emergency, but what if we focus on where it begins: the community?
We highlight priorities to mitigate, monitor, measure, and manage sepsis in the community. Over 90% of cases start in the community, making a community-focused approach essential.

So grateful for a year of growth, learning, and meaningful collaboration.
Now onto the final stretchβ¦
Thesis writing begins! π€
From presenting my first thesis paper at HEI Research Day & @cahspr.bsky.social, moderating a powerful conversation with Ted at the HHS Building Bridges Symposium, and receiving the @mcmasteruniversity.bsky.social FHS Outstanding Achievement Award, itβs been a full and rewarding year!
With my third-year committee meeting complete and plans in place for the final phase of my PhD, Iβm taking a moment to reflect on a few highlights from Year 3. π§΅
