🧭 A third fishing company has already completed two transects (measuring paths) for HyfiveBaltic. 💪

🚀 With currently six transects (five actively sampled)...

Last week, we delivered three HyFive systems.

📦 One system went to Fehmarn in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania,
📦 and a second system went to Maasholm in Schleswig-Holstein.
Both fishermen will be taking them out for the first time soon (probably next week) and will start measuring.

We participated in a Danish study that shows: Danish seines leave only minor traces on the seabed and on the animals living there. 🐚🌊
This strengthens the basis for our work on the MiniSeine (project: @cibbrina.bsky.social) and the MicroSeine (project: @eco-catch) 🧵

Our aim is to develop selective fishing technologies to avoid bycatch.

Last week, part of our team took part in a 3-day sea safety training course. The course covered fire safety, water survival, and first aid—all essential skills for our future fieldwork at sea!

It was a great experience, and we’re now better prepared for whatever the ocean throws our way 🌊

BREAKING from @science.org: The Trump admin is seeking to kill nearly all climate research at NOAA, its climate science agency.

Its near-final budget proposal would end all NOAA research labs, academic institutes, and regional climate centers. And it wants to fully end the NOAA Research division.
