I get those if the trigger is physical (which is unbelievably difficult to explain to new partners) but those kind of flashbacks have thankfully become more rare for me. Im sorry you go through them, honestly I’d take visual flashbacks over those bastards any day.

It would be interesting to know if my aphantasia is something I was born with or a thing I developed during my traumatic life experiences as some sort of coping mechanism. My psychiatrists and therapists haven’t been able to give me an answer for that as I don’t remember a lot of my childhood.

Fun fact: I have Aphantasia which means I can’t form visual images in mind. I also have CPTSD from a long term sexually abusive relationship. My flashbacks are completely visual. The only time I can “day dream” is when I have involuntary flashbacks.
