We attended this year's @societyofvertpaleo.bsky.social meeting in Birmingham. There we spoke to the organisers, delegates and merchants to give you a sense of what it's like to attend one of the world's largest palaeontological conferences. #paleo #dinosaurs

The @societyofvertpaleo.bsky.social
Annual Meeting #2025SVP was an absolute blast! Great to reconnect with European colleagues this year, and to hang out with EDDy Lab folks again. I presented some of our ongoing work on #teeth #biomechanics. Stay tuned, more toothy madness on the way! 🦷

Can you teach human anatomy - or know someone who can?

CWRU Anatomy is recruiting, and it would be great to have another paleontologist in the department!

Understandable. This account is run by the Communications Committee. While we strive to be helpful, messages brought directly to us as comments/posts must still travel to relevant powers that be up the chain. A formal letter signed by colleagues and submitted to ExComm maybe a more fruitful avenue.

Nice to share a toast with my mentor, Prof. Mike Benton, and former Benton lab mates. Great to see Mike receive the Romer-Simpson Medal to honour his lifetime of work in the field of vertebrate palaeontology.

A small selection of snapshots from #2025SVP last week for this #FossilFriday! This was my first @societyofvertpaleo.bsky.social meeting since 2022 & it was fantastic to see so many friends & colleagues after so long. Presented my latest research & forged new connections - much exciting work ahead!

Hi Paul! Please add this valuable feedback to the formal post-conference feedback survey! Also encourage others you know in the SVP community to include this request in their feedback. That will be the best approach to get action on this input. Thanks!

Congratulations to SVP Communications Committee member Noah da Silva!

Keep an eye out for a new video series Noah is hosting for us where he will be breaking down the methods sections of recent paleontology papers. The first episode from him and his team should debut in late December.

The last leaves of autumn glow even brighter to a hungry pair of Therizinosaurus, bulking up for a long winter. These strange dinosaurs are some of my favorites, and though they're slow movers, they made it just in time to be included in my new calendar!

What's the secret to being a 'good' and 'productive' scientist? Having a lab with the brightest, most enthusiastic students!

And here, in no particular order, is a sample of Univ of Edinburgh student research at last week's @societyofvertpaleo.bsky.social meeting in Birmingham!

Finally, the specimen of Tupandactylus imperator, held at the Brazil's National Museum, has been published on. The goat-like beard is likely the plant matter.

Thank you to everyone for making #2025SVP in Birmingham productive and fun! After spending the day on planes I'm finally home in NY. Now to actually write up the results of all the data collection I did in UK museums before the conference.....
