Fixed now so do please offer it to your ears:
I'm very stoked about this concert we're hosting at the Peretz Centre in Vancouver on Dec 3rd with two NY musicians. Michael Winograd, who I consider the best klezmer musican around these days๐ and Ira Temple, my friend & hard working accordionist who is no slouch either.
This right here weirdness on @accordionnoir.bsky.socialโs big drone accordion special

Itโs Bandcamp Friday! Hereโs my old band โBeast, Please Be Stillโ where I met my wife (she played accordion). Itโs post-rock but with violin, flute, electronic wind instrument, and cellphone feedback? Very 2007.
Enjoy: beastpleasebestill.bandcamp.com/album/beast-...

Al, wearing an accordion, poses backstage with Flo & Eddie, who are blowing party horns.
RIP Mark Volman, founding member of The Turtles and one half of Flo & Eddie (pictured here - Mark is on the left, Howard Kaylan on the right). I was fortunate enough to do some of my very first live performances as an opening act for Flo & Eddie in 1983 at the Bottom Line in NYC.
There could be books on every member of that Figgy Duff
Not sure theyโd all want anything to do with that though! ๐
Trying to get out my vision of โwhat was happening with the accordionโ, can obscure the labour and lives of the artists who were there when the accordions werenโt playing, or who did the work to make the scene happen, or were โ frankly โ more important than the accordion player sometimes
Great article! Thank you!
Figgy Duff were really interesting to read and write about in my #AccordionRevolution book. Iโm pretty sure I didnโt do them justice in my urge to tell my story of folk music accordion trends
Like most Canadian bands they havenโt gotten enough attention
Today (Aug 15) in #NLMusicHistory...
In 1979, The Newfoundland Herald profiled accordion aficionado GEOFF BUTLER. At age 19, Geoff joined Newfoundland & Labrador's premier folk-rock band FIGGY DUFF.

Separated from our place in Gastown by a few hundred meters because everywhere East of the Sea Bus remains dedicated to industrial use / which left #DTES residents to fight for Crab Park ๐ฆ and it being Bob Mosesedโoff from the rest of the Sea Wall all these years

Trump's ending de minimis exemption (which would add 35% tax to shipments from Canada less than $800)
Means I might have to close my #AccordionRevolution Etsy to US buyers after August 1
So if you want #Accordion books, stickers or buttons, you might want to order in the next week or so
Unusual pin connector for some kind of electronic audio output on the outside of a diatonic melodeon/accordion.
Back of a black accordion with two 2/4 inch jack audio output plugs. It is a Hohner Overture V model.
Same Accordion with the front grill taken off so you can see the wiring pour the peculiar electronic plug wired up to individual sensors for each key, I think.
Jack on the front of the Accordion, which looks to me to be perhaps a 12 V power input?
Big thread over on #accodion #Mastodon (such as it is) about an electronic melodeon, somebody found

Page 210 from my Accordion Revolution: โAn Ursuline convent school may have purchased the very first accordion in Canada in 1843. We know this because the nuns kept the receipts, and several of these delicate instruments survive in the convent museum. The Ursulines also had various accordions repaired in Quebec City at the head of the St. Lawrence River, source for European imports in Canada. These French-style instruments would have featured in bourgeois and upper-class parlors in Quebec, but were out of reach of most people. In the later 1800s, more affordable German-style accordions and Anglo-German concertinas became available through the Eaton and Montgomery Ward catalogs. Then, in 1895, Odilon Gagnรฉ began producing the first Canadian-built German-style ten-button accordions in Quebec. He crafted every part himself, from the reeds to the bellows and buttons. His sons carried on the business and passed on the skills to [his sons].
First appearance of an accordion in Canadian history is at an Ursuline convent in Quebec City. We know because they kept the receipt in 1843
