This is an incredible testament to the loss of local news coverage. A congresswoman disappeared for six months and no one noticed.
This is my favorite podcast these days. Check it out!
You're right. In 10th grade, my teacher took our touring choral group to the grave of Benjamin Britten. She cried unabashedly for several minutes. This shocked me. It did give me a sense of permission to feel deeply.
My deepest condolences.
What's really at stake in the 2024 election: Not Trump vs. Biden, not Republicans vs. Democrats, but what kind of country you want America to be for the rest of your life. Please spread this link. [via @jayrosen.bsky.social] www.weekendreading.net/p/democracy-...
A knitted pink and blue bird with wire feet standing on a table.
My husband @wardqnormal.bsky.social knitted this adorable bird for a colleague/buddy who has a trans son. I love my husband.
"The visions of the feudalist are more self-interested and abstract than even the most egotistical displays of the capitalist."
Found out today (by way of generic email) I'm getting laid off from Vox.
I would love to talk opportunities for an experienced climate journalist, editor, and investigative reporter.
Why? Pedagogical approaches change over time and always have. We're in a moment of integrating social-emotional learning into subject-matter teaching. There's no secret conspiracy in this.
As if dragging oneself through work to get a pension is a problem with the disabled person and not with the system for supporting people in retirement.
Sounds unreasonable to me. Welcome to ANY job working personally with people. Sometimes they are going to be sad, upset, etc. You respond human to human. A person's not suited to be a teacher if that isn't naturally in their kit of knacks.
I was thinking the same thing. My 6th grade year, the transition from arithmetic to algebra, consisted of reasoning games played sitting on the floor -- designed to be relaxing. I'm not a "math person" but remain comfortable with math to this day.
Hello, Michele.
Unfuckingbelieveable
Imagine that you own a network of billboards, and you’ve allowed people who pay you $8/month to spray paint dicks and swastikas on them. How many billboards do you think you’re renting to Pepsi after that
WTH!
There's just so much more information *garbage" lately everywhere. Spam mail, spam calls, spam texts, spam comments and posts, ai written articles with inaccurate info, web pages covered in ads for nothing...just drowning in garbage all the time
Devastatingly intimate and detailed interview with a mother who survived the

This analogy is lovely.
I know it’s not the most serious issue, but I hate how Trump sullied those awards.
This is a brilliant take on “young workers need to come to the office for mentoring.”
Not to mention the doctor doesn’t want you in the office spreading a viral infection to more vulnerable patients when the treatment is “drink a lot of water and get some extra sleep.”
Ewwww.
My linocut portrait of astronaut Mae Jemison in her flight suit, holding her helmet, with the globe of Earth above and to left.
Happy birthday to American astronaut Mae Carol Jemison (born October 17, 1956), a physician who became the first Black woman to travel in space when she went into orbit aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour for NASA, on September 12, 1992! 🐡🧪🧑🏾🔬 #histsci She also has a B.S. in chemical engineering, 🧵1/n
Not what I was saying. I was saying there are people at ALL financial levels who do use substances and others who don’t, but only the poor ones are scrutinized. Calm down.
Artists are more than just “inspired.” Interviewers ask, “Who are your influences?” People incorporate methods and approaches. They react and respond directly to other people’s work.
Title: The shocking truth of what is going on in our public libraries! Image 1: A librarian hands a book to a girl saying "I think you'll enjoy this". The caption reads: Teens prescribed mind-altering experiences! Panel 2: A librarian reads to toddlers under a 'Reading is Fun!' poster. The caption reads: Children indoctrinated from an early age! Panel 3: A librarian checks out a pile of books for a user, saying "come again soon!". The caption reads: Free samples distributed to promote addiction! Panel 4: A figure approaches the library by night passing a sign for a Ulysses Study Group. The caption reads: Groups gather by night to study arcane texts!
